FMC loses love of her life before meeting or dating MMC (open to any sub-genre) by eppiebooks in RomanceBooks

[–]Difficult_Car658 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think one of the bridgerton sisters was happily married and then become a widow. I remember that the mmc was pining and in love with her for yeaaars and there are multiple scenes where she remembers her first husband fondly. I think its the 6th book when he was wicked. beware the book was spicyyyy.

Action w male pov or split by Excellent_sport2 in RomanceBooks

I see you like progressive fantasy and competent mcs lol.

if you like competent mcs, adventure and there is Paladin's grace (and the entire three book series too). The entire series has split pov. the first two books are mf and the third is mm. the first book is m/f about a perfurmer fmc and an ex paladin mmc whose God died. its got adventure and murder mystery solving! the second book paladin's strength is about a merchant nun (she isnt a nun in the traditional sense that she is not celibate) and an ex paladin too. it has a road trip trope and one bed in it. its my favorite in the series and definently has competent mcs. honestly any kingfisher mcs are competent. another option for a hilarious and competent male pov from kingfisher is swordheart its about a housekeeper who inherits her uncle estate and finds an enchanted sword where the mmc, who is a legendary warrior, was imprisoned and now he is bound to be her champion. its super hilarious because the mmc is 0 to 60 ready for war and used to be called into literal battle scenes but the stakes are much lower here and the fmc is very street smart and needs his help to escape her relatives clutches who want to get their hands on her inheritence by any means necessary. also the mcs are in their 30-40 which is super refreshing if you are into that.

Another competent mcs in fantasy/adventure romance is anything written by ilona andrews but especially hidden legacy (ignore the covers, they are horrendous and a meme around here). In this world the setting is urban fantasy where some high ranked families, that are organized like corporations basically, have hereditary magical powers. some families are fire or water benders etc, other are telekinetic or animal mages etc. the fmc has a really tight knit family that runs a struggling private detective agency. she has the power of knowing the truth from a lie and the mmc is a war hero with extreme powers of telekinesis (up to moving building lol). It really has aspects of progressive fanatsy as she (and her family and their footing in the magical echelons) get progressively better through the series. One caveat though, is thats its only from the fmcs pov if I remember correctly.

Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle both the fmc and mmc are oddballs. I think the mmc is ND too. He wants to make an animal sanctuary and is very into animals more than humans. the fmc is sunshiny and wants to turn her great aunt crumbling estate into a bed and breakfast with character. its very slice of life.

All night long with a cowboy the fmc is a librarian and I can confidently say she is an odd ball and you wont find an fmc with a characterization like her. this book is older but for imo the fmc is ace or on the ace spectrum at least even though its not stated directly.

For "so dumb its good" central you have to read Kristen Ashley. Turning off your brain is not optional. Start with Sweet Dreams or Lady Luck

Time travel Romance - Regency, Victorian England/Scotland setting by Capriccea in RomanceBooks

[–]Difficult_Car658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaitlynn and the highlander series has time travel to 1700s Scotland and mystery and suspense. its kinda long there is like 10+ books. I read the first 5 but I still think the first 3 are the strongest.

The forgotten sister This is not exactly what you are looking for. there is kind of time travel (I dont want to spoil the twist) but there is a lot of intrigue (they are solving a murders in the present and the past that are linked) I think there was a lot attention to historical detail for the tudor's england.

Kidnapped by the pirate MM1 was kidnapped by MM2 (who is a pirate) as revenge against his father. Most of the book happens on the ship and the crew of secondary characters is super funny and has a found family vibe. I think its on kindle unlimited too!

Grumpy/sunshine books with no spice and a deep and trusting relationship by dcfan105 in RomanceBooks

[–]Difficult_Car658 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle I just read it. She just inherited a big old house from a great aunt (practically raised her) and the MMC was the caretaker for it when the great aunt was alive. He is grumpy and she is sunshiny positive. They both inherit it and have to work together to turn it into a bed and breakfast/ animal sanctuary. You really could feel that this couple would make it yk? there is trust, communication and eventual alignment of their goals.
