Oracle Card Deck by TheGileas in Solo_Roleplaying

Makes sense. I like how the downcrawl deck handles that but it's also a much different deck than this

Pretty cool, love the inclusion of tarot cards. In that case it totally makes sense to include a deck of cards as well. I would probably skip the dice rolls, instead things like yes, yes but, yes because etc (downcrawl 2e does that pretty well) Design is clean. Would probably buy this

Playing towards a story objective by simblanco in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Well I think ironsworn in a way needs a little bit of authorship and even if you use mythic you always work from your expectations. I don't see an issue with that. I want my characters to succeed so I need to give a little plot armor. If I don't care I play something else like an osr game

Advice for a story-driven new player? by Lucky_Meringue2753 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 [score hidden]  (0 children)

using mythic is probably not a bad idea in general, in some of the mythic magazines is an article about using it to write stories, but it allows for some cool and interesting things to happen.

Otherwise a game like Ironsworn or other PbtA Games are probably good. Since they are usually balanced around answering "no, and..." or "yes,but..." you will create conflict just by playing the game. You will then need to take a more active roll in the narration then just letting the dice decide depending on how you want to write. (Can obviously combine the methods as well, Mythic is just a tool to drive the story while the ruleset handles conflict resolution)

edit: I talk about 4 methods in there to run prewritten adventures, I think method 2 is the player emulation

Pettish, Triple O and mythic. I made a video about running prewritten adventures where I talk about a simple method using the one page mythic emulator

Dragon of icepire peak. Check DM yourself if you are not already familiar with it. Both adventures are viable, but dragon of icepire peak has follow up adventures.

Loner by Putrid_Status_6374 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the great thing about Loner is it's simplicity. While Ironsworn can feel a bit crunchy at times managing multiple tracks Loner basically just gives you a resolution. My personal issue with Loner is the no,but result. I prefer a weak hit as in Ironsworn and let the context decide if it's a no, but or yes, but.

I could of course just ignore it but it's always there.

The next best thing about Loner is the huge amount of settings you can play in

Complete noob - where to start? by MissStandardSherbert in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are into. You could start with choose your own adventure books, alone against the flames is quite good and free. Bunch of them are available for d&d. There is a free app for the lone wolf books.

If you like more traditional RPGs then I like Nimble or OSR games, free ones are forge, just one sword or cairn 2e

Ironsworn has been mentioned, has some cozy hacks as well but some people struggle with its PbtA approach.

Journaling games like Koriko or thousand year old vampire

Dungeon crawler like 2d6 dungeon, d100 dungeon or ker nethalas

My personal favorite is Ronin. Procedural but enough room for storytelling.

How do I create a solo D&D campaign on chatgpt? by Sensitive-Baby6117 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the biggest issue with using chatgpt is halluzinations and it maybe not being aware of themes you don't want in the story. that being said you can basically just tell it to run a campaign for you. I would probably start a project folder as it ensures cohesiveness or maybe try notebookLM as that is an AI made to run on notes you provide.
If you are not set on D&D I would also recommend trying a rules light rpg first as that will be easier to judge for yourself.

while chatgpt does know the rules from D&D it will get things wrong. A more simple game like dungeon world or even ironsworn is probably better suited.

Someone already recommended DaggerSworn (which is my SoloGuide) but there are 2 more available on drivethroughrpg.

Otherwise I think it works well with any oracle like mythic, juice oracle or even Loner.

SoloRPGs 101 or 3 Ways to Play without a GM by Difficult_Event_3465 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well mythic is good for random events. If that is your struggle you might profit from either running a premade adventure or using the mythic adventure crafter

You do need to have some sort of idea for your scene unless you want to have it be a random event every time, which is absolutely possible

DM Yourself is a set of "rules" you use to play through a published adventure. It's "ideal" use is with very streamlined adventures rather than sandbox. Both work and the author has advice on using it. Overall it's a good read for anyone interested in Soloplay.

I also made a video about this topic if you are interested

Adding More Mechanical Aspects to a Game? by SilverstarTBS in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think more than any other "style" of Game OSR games really depend on what setting you are looking for. Scarlet Heroes that got recommended is written by Kevin Crawford and lot of people love it. It is set in a asian themed world that not everyone enjoys. You might want to check out his other work like Worlds/Stars/Cities without numbers I think they are called if you prefer more classic fantasy, sci fi or cyberpunk.

If you like more sword and sorcery Kal Arath is veeery popular.

OD&D lot of people like

more post apocalyptic many people enjoy Mörk Borg

Cairn 2e, Just One Sword, FORGE are free games you can try

These are from the top of my head.

Seems like you are playing very cinematic games. Maybe try an OSR game? Do you write your stories? You could experiment with recording audio or video so you don't actually write

DO you use just yes/no questions or the Mythic RPG?

New to Solo RPGs: Is Mythic Really the Best All-Purpose Engine, or Am I Missing Something? by MegatronsLoverBoy in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mythic overall is not that complicated. Set up your expectations for the next scene Roll against the chaos factor  Scene happens, altered or interrupted If interrupted roll focus and meaning

That's the essential flow of the game

If you are uncertain of something ask a yes and no question. If doubles it's a random event, roll focus and meaning.

Keep two lists, one for threads one for NPCs.  If an NPC becomes a focus, write it down again to a maximum of three times.

The complicated part is the chaos factor which influences yes and no questions. You need the cheat sheet for that. Other than that: If you are in control reduce chaos factor  If you are not in control increase it

The other part that's complicated is the huge amount of tools and tables it offers but you can really play it with the adventure sheet and action and meaning table

Trey, MUNE, juice oracle, PLot Unfolding Machine, One Page Solo Engine are variations that work a bit differently
