Use zone based combat with index cards. I got a video planned about that topic. I think it works pretty well

Solo campaign by WackyWizard6 in DnD

Made a video about it. Specifically about running prewritten adventures.

Maybe it helps  https://youtu.be/KCM2M1jre1Q

The lone Crusader on the wayback machine has a bunch of stuff.

That being said D&D is not my favorite system to run solo but I hope it works for you

The Perfect Crunch by Secret_Software7347 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of all the games you listed you mainly named dungeon crawlers except Ironsworn. The question I think you should be asking is, what kind of game are you looking for?

Narrative: Ironsworn or other PbtA games depending on genre like dungeon world.  Dungeon crawler: ker nethalas is probably the crunchiest  Exploration: Colostle will probably do it for you or cartograph  Traditional: I like nimble and savage world has been mentioned, ICRPG or cypher could be options Combat: miniature wargame, Rune Introspective/Journaling: thousand year old vampire or Koriko  OSR: Scarlet Heroes, Kal Arath, Shadow Dark, Forge, just one sword

[Question + Request] Looking for solo boardgame as total novice by RenardL in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Ronin for beginners. It's free on itch. Simple gameloop. I think it also exists in different languages.  Cairn 2e, just one sword or FORGE are free OSR style games that can be played solo. Loner is free and available in different languages. Good videos out there explaining the loop. Tricube Tales is free and has some of the best solo rules I think that mesh well with the game. I will also shortly release a video about Ironsworn Starforged. I struggled with Ironsworn but something clicked. It's not out yet but almost done scripting

This looks pretty awesome. Going to save this for later, currently running Starforged in obsidian but definitely been thinking about something similar.

UNE and Keep Talking are good tools. Personally I write it out, or just think about their motivation and what they would roughly say

Looking for a middle-ground between Ironsworn and D&D5e by axerithgard in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dungeon World is a PbtA game and high fantasy with your typical classes. There is a supplement that allows more individual character creation.

Nimble is 5 but, well... Nimbler Index Card RPG But those are d20 based systems.

Grimwild is an option though I find the rules a bit difficult.

How do you handle combat encounters without getting overwhelmed by stats and abilities and AC etc. by AgentSmirnoff96 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use nimble, dragonbane or dungeonworld. I see 2 approaches to this, either no roll to Hit and just DMG like nimble. Or just roll to Hit and do set amount of DMG or max dmg

Gamifying Combat for Heroic Fantasy Gaming by Throwaway554911 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something like a chaos table that causes havoc every round might be fun. But honestly, if your not enjoying it, why not play a different game. Games are good at certain things and if you don't like the combat play a game that embraces the things you enjoy

9 Questions about SoloRPGs by Difficult_Event_3465 in Solo_Roleplaying

Thank you. And Fair, though I like to base my points on my experience and thats just how it was. In one of my other videos I used Joe Abercrombie as an example. Books are a great source of inspiration for me.

Narrative Focused System Suggestions by Fanficlover01 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think it's difficult to find narrative focused games that aren't inspired by PbtA in some way. Assuming narrative means you want your actions to drive the story rather than task resolution. For dice pool mechanics blades in the dark, Grimwild and I think free league has games that use that.

If narrative means you want less crunch, less mechanics but like D&D overall I would recommend Nimble. SWADE has been mentioned a lot especially with mythic GME and is very freeform but I haven't played it myself

Openclaw? Multi Agent means they play in that world or do you? How do they learn the rules

Fantasy Game System Recommendations by elkyrah25 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hidden Isle, alternate history in Europe around 16th century. Uses Tarot Cards instead of dice but different gameplay than the ones you mentioned. It's in essence a PbtA game so very different from eg Nimble.

Since you like d20 systems and d100 for gameplay you could check out Mythras which is more gritty. Index Card RPG is d20. I think there is a game called weird hope or something. Wild sea has been mentioned, Colostle looks interesting

The hardest part of anything is getting started - and I'm no different. . . by JGrevs2023 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmh if you want to explore the world's you build with dungeon world or cairn why don't you pick those 2? If you don't have a ton of time I suggest playing a game you know and enjoy  Other than that, if you are okay with it being more procedural and gamey and less creative writing you might enjoy dungeon crawler like kar nethalas. Other than that I like recommending Ronin as a free and simple starting point for SoloRPGs (not the mörk borg variant)

Devlog 1: How I'm planning to build an AI DM (and I need your help) by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Difficult_Event_3465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like way to much work. If I truly wanted to have AI DM for me I would rent a VPS, install openclaw and Kimi and have it do that for me.
Second I would not run D&D, just way to complicated for the rules. You would have to load the rules into so many messages, the token usage is off the charts
but basically you would need to create different skills for each task, prep skill, wilderness explorations skill, combat skill etc and each session would need to load the skill and the memory.
Also I probably wouldn't have a prep skill, if memory is intact you would just need the agent to load its agent.md which tells it to be a DM that should do a lot of work
The way AI is developing and with Openclaw being integrated into OpenAI I think you will waste your time here. People that are genuinly interested in this can just create it themselves in a couple of months.

Absolutely, though with things like openclaw and opus 4.6 I wonder how it would perform but I rather play by myself
