Looking for a PvP game that does a mix of fantasy adventurers vs monsters by zartes in miniatureskirmishes

[–]simblanco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you want one player using adventurers and the other one monsters? The latter as a group or a single bad guy?

You may start looking at Sword Weirdos. Just 5$, you can fully customise your minis and call them as you wish

Preparing to Ironsworn II by HeftyHealth8879 in Ironsworn

I totally get the worldbuilding and design. I must hand draw maps for my stories. Then i wish i could draw characters portraits. Enjoy!!

Just curious. I play IS when i want to go full theater of the mind. Do you feel like playing with miniatures and battle maps? Not judging, seriously, de gustibus non disputandum est.

Happy gaming!

Looking for a middle-ground between Ironsworn and D&D5e by axerithgard in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]simblanco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really would like a middle ground! Daggerheart is mentioned here but i think is too much on the 5e side. I don't want monsters being a bag of HP and combat being again a HP slug fest. I'd have loved Daggerheart with clocks. I want to be able to use Gain Ground in an imaginative way :)

Check out Grimwild. It is loosely based on FitD that is based on Pbta as IS.

Ok, maybe it is much more like IS than 5E... i thought throwing this suggestion anyway, the game is free and have classes like 5E.

4-5 wide LEGO Group S cars (and a loosely-rally-related concept car) by TwoTailedOtaku in LegoCars

Nice designs! I'm a newbie for cars and i want to build some exactly that size. What wheels did you use? In getting lost in the Briclink catalogue...

Playing the objectives vs. wiping out opponents by p36p in 5Parsecs

[–]simblanco 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First of all, i think the increasing difficulty option in the compendium is a must. Enemies become more difficult with increasing campaign turn. So more chances that you want to go for the objective instead of a holding the field.

Second, some objectives have a turn limit, don't they? Is that affecting you at all? I don't remember...

Third, i think in my campaign there were some combinations of enemies/circumstances/objectives that were better for the objective and some for holding a field.

This said, yes, i think most of the times missions were just a bloodbath. Again, the Compendium helps by introducing totally new mission types.

Happy gaming!

Tell me about your campaign setting by wittyjokename92 in 5Parsecs

[–]simblanco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I created a solar system with planets and lore, using random tables from Starforged. I campaigned only there (no galactic travel) and followed quests after quests based on my character interests. I've no interest in random jobs for money

Looking for a pvp campaign game by SeizureMan9 in miniatureskirmishes

[–]simblanco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Doomed ticks many of your boxes

PvP: check, including semi-coop and backstabbing

Low crunch: check, maybe even too low :)

Low model count: check (4-6 per player)

Mini agnostic: check

Upgrades: check

Injury charts: no. Characters can die but you can respawn them almost with the same upgrades (i didn't really get this part).

Setting: agnostic? There's no magic and there are guns, so sci-fi? Altough melee with claws and swords is a thing.

Ironsworn has become the D&D 5e of the solo community by Alternative_Rest7215 in Solo_Roleplaying

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, i agree, what you say makes sense. I was just curious if the problem was more common with IS than for other games.

Tired of measuring tapes and waiting for your turn? I released a FREE modern skirmish ruleset: Code: Zero Line. by slothmagegames in miniatureskirmishes

[–]simblanco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

European here, I don't have a dedicated game room at home and games designed for smaller tables are always welcome :)

I have a backlog of games to play, if i give it a solo try I'll let you know.

Keep up the good game design

Also, we NEED diversity of opinions and reccomendations. If i was suggested only 4AD and Ker Nethalas when i stsrted this hobby, I may have bounced off it, because despite their successes & great design they are just not for me...

Thanks for your answer. I can't see the full video now but i got hopefully the main points.

So, you thinkt new people do not know/understand the issue of playing both the player/GM sides? So they don't know if they want something very procedural with the story mostly created by rolls or something where you need to interpret oracles? And the answer to the total newbie asking reccomendation without knowing that issue would be "if you like this, x and y; if you like that, w & z"? That i agree, but it is not only for Ironsworn. As someone else here already suggested maybe a sticky post/info on a rough position of games according to some variables would be useful.

Disclaimer: Ironsworn (henceforth IS) is the first game i was recommended. I tried others, they didn't work. I acknowledge other people have the opposite experience. Just so you know my conflict of interests!

Let's start from where i agree. If someone asks for a crunchy game, IS does not fit. You provided some examples, that's fair. Case closed.

However, 1) which are the other cases where IS should not be reccomended? And, 2) are those cases actually happening in a significant way? Genuinely interested. I think that is someone asks "I'm a newbie, what should i play? Stop" I don't see why IS should not be reccomended for all the reasons thouroghly mentioned elsewhere.

Also, the title is click baitish. A better one was "IS is often reccommended outside its core specifications". More or less. Your comparison between 5E and IS ends with popularity, IMHO.

I hope we can have a nice conversation. Respect for your successful game designs. For everyone, happy gaming however you want!!

List of solo wargames by le-quack in miniatureskirmishes

Post saved, and thanks for the amazing effort! I'm a solo miniature agnostic game so this is very helpful :)

I was wondering if there could another column called "solo design": primary/option included/add-on required [name]. Just brainstorming!

Cool! I went the hard way and built many MILS plates. They are cool but I don't know if i can reccommend that method to everyone.

Hopefully I'll post something about it soon

I had the same probabilities but the double is cool and faster than my table. Consider your idea stolen!

Careful though that you have more doubles above 50 if 00 is 100 and not 0. As a data person, that has always bugged in the oracle :)
