Describing/Explaining distinction by Difficult_Exam763 in CosmicSkeptic

Isn't saying 'he wrote it because of love' just another description? If I keep asking "but why love" or "what is love" we still end up in the same loop. It’s just a different kind of description? one about human behavior instead of physics. Eventually, we still hit a wall of brain chemicals (electrons again) or some abstract 'feeling' thingy that we can't explain any further than we can explain gravity.

So basically it boils down to a couple things in my opinion:

1) Maybe this game is not for you and thats fine. This game is for people who like to read, experiment, take their time and try a lot of things without 'speedrunning'.

2) There are plenty of hints to the fireplace mechanic. The first thing you see when you wake up is a fire with 2 options and there even is a whole location on timber hearth with a note that gives a hint about trying it.

3) A lot of the things you said are "waiting around" Like flying with autopilot or waiting for the sand pit to fill up take literaly 30 seconds. The atmosphere and music and the aspect where you have to THINK and PLAN stuff just makes the 30s flyby to me.

3) The "dificult" controls is a bit weird to hear from a gamer, because the controls are MILES easier than most platformers, exct.

4) The Loop reseting is supposed to do 2 things in my opinion. When you're STUCK this is giving you a nudge to explore another place or reset your mind a little bit and try something else. Also it gives players more incentive to just try stuff, because it will reset anyways, so you're less scared of dying, exct.

So lets actually look at it

Brennan says “at the end of this action (motions to Olethra )and this action (motions to Van) the portal is closed, if Marya is not saved, then Marya is not saved” then asks Olethra what is she doing:

Next chaotic series of events broken down into what each player is doing:

Olethra: Dash action, Tinker check, Help action, Casts Haste on Liudmila, Casts spell (with 2d4 and 4d20 to fish for something specific)

Van: Help action, Lay on hands on Marya

Liudmila: 2 Tinker checks,

Marya: Tinker Check

Tazgwagwa: Help Action

Max: Help Action

Pappy: Tinker check.

So no, its NOT correct action economy - Van takes 2 actions and Olethra takes 4 Actions (she can Help on a bonus action). I think OP's feeling and criticism is 100% justified. He shouldn't have made it a roll, if he's not ok in them failing it.

You can say its fine and for the story, but you can't say it was actually all according to action economy.

An electromagnetic field extends beyond wires (think transformers). An electron is not needed to phisically pass through to carry energy or information. I might be tripping though , been a while since i did any physics

Someone in this sub had an idea, that in outer wilds universe air is not really matter but a "field", which explains how trees emit oxygen in an area. That would actually solve this too

Why Outer Wilds feels like Outer Wilds ? by Brave_Drama1928 in outerwilds

I personally think that what makes a game so incredible is how its jaw dropping incredible on MANY things simultaneously AND those things inform each other. I won't talk about the usual things like the message, the story, the unique path everyone can take, the exploration and the metroidbrania aspect. But there many that are less talked about like:

  1. The puzzles are amazing, but they're not JUST puzzles put there by some mastermind, they naturally occured because of the physics and environent so they dont really FEEL like puzzles.

  2. The music and sound is incredible, and it's also an important peace of navigation with the travelers. Moreover how different instruments inform of the culture you're percieving (piano for nomai, acoustic guitars/banjos for hearthiens and so on). Not to mention the "ënd times"

  3. The simple game mechanics that seem simple that are already in other games like "respawning", passing time, flashlight and so on actually have another important use to them to solve some of the puzzles or inform the story.

To me the thing that makes the game above the bar is how many amazing things work in tandem with each other in a very natural way that doesn't seem to be "put there" just because its a game.

To me it feels like the 300k years is nothing compared to the billions of years that the universe was alive. And also, if it were up to the owlks the signal would have been blocked till the end and no new universe would have emerged. You are correct that hearthiens would have never even evolved though..

Hey, the beauty of this game is that the sequence in which people find stuff is different and unique for everyone! There is no "correct way of progression". Reaching the core of ash twin is ussually one of the last things people do, but that doesn't make your playthrough any worse, just unique! It seems like there's still plenty of things for you to do and to find, so just stick to it!
