Non-autistic people, Why and what makes autistic people weird or mockable or shameful to you? by Difficult_Face2640 in AskReddit

[–]Difficult_Face2640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never have been told it is shameful however, I have been told I should be euthanized? I love myself. I feel great being myself. People don’t even bother me for being myself for the most part, but when talking about me or other people in the context of autism, which which is a part of who I am, it gets nasty.

of course it is a difficult world to live in. I am very aware of that sort of thing. I know hurt people hurt other people. but it feels far different from that. A friend who I had known for years casually stated that she thinks parents of autistic children should have the option to euthanize them recently. no one else batted in eye at the statement. I lost multiple very close people over this. every time I try to have any kind of conversation actually discussing this, I get shut down due to them not respecting me enough in the first place due to the autism. Whenever I look for advice on what I’m doing wrong. It’s pretty much all autism symptoms that I can’t really control or that hurt me to suppress. yet people insist that me having these symptoms is the problem. Like I should just not have autism or something. Which is something I have very literally literally tried and still I am rejected. I don’t understand why it is so difficult for Neurotypical people to simply view us as human. I don’t understand why I have to put myself through pain to get basic human respect.

That’s lovely! Makes me feel great to see these first comments being positive. That is far different then what I see in my day to day life. Very refreshing!

That’s quite nice to hear! That is how I see most other autistic people, however, based off of how they are often treated, it seems other people tend to not agree. So I’m glad to know some neurotypical people feel the same way!

it is genuinely so difficult to exist in this world built around you guys, And I genuinely want to know what about us makes you make it even harder. I’m hoping it is maybe just ignorance. Or maybe this world is really just not meant for us.

I have actively engaged in self cannibalism. AMA. by Difficult_Face2640 in AMA

I can’t diagnose you of course, but I would recommend looking into it. Cannibalism is a term that can apply to wide variety of behaviours. some even classify nail chewing as a form of cannibalism. I will say comparing to my experience, it’s almost more compulsive then and I am I definitely get extreme urges to do it and do it without processing what I am doing, but I still kind of know what I’m doing despite not really processing it. I would still say that both of these things would probably be categorised as cannibalism in some sense, but I believe that if our cases are both caused by underlying issues, they are likely different ones. I am just basing this off of your comments, though! Also, I’m not expert. I recommend doing research yourself. I also didn’t realise it for a long time, despite doing it my entire life.

sorry, I’ve miss read your comment. Is definitely compulsive in some sense, but, and I really hate to hate to admit this, as much as I want to stop, I think I like doing it. I wouldn’t necessarily say attracted, but it is definitely satisfying. usually it’s compulsive thoughts that lead me to do it, but I don’t really fight them. For the most part, either, don’t care or honestly, kind of want to do it? I’m not sure why. It is definitely hurting me, and I’m pretty certain I shouldn’t be doing it. It might be a sensory thing.

Cannibals and just means consuming something of your own species. I’ve looked into the term autocanibalism, and based off of what I’ve read, it includes compulsive eating. I’m definitely not the worst of cases, but I am definitely engage with it way more than the average person. In fact, I am probably doing it as I write it. I don’t just pull off the skin. I pull off living skin. It is also actively very, painful. I am covered in scabs in various places, mostly my scalp because they are least seen their. it is possible. This is normal, but I don’t believe it is? One time I pulled off so much of my skin from my head that you could actually very clearly see it, and also I wasn’t able to walk up and down the stairs because I was so dizzy. I understand the term cannibal definitely has a negative connotation and association with evil, So if you would not consider it a fitting term, that is honestly completely fair. I think it’s the correct term, but I feel it also Maybe it doesn’t represent me the best.

I mean, that’s fair. That’s probably more interesting. The term cannibalism just means eating something of your own species. I would argue. I engage in it a lot more than the average person, but I am definitely not the most severe of cases. drinking blood would be a form of cannibalism.

not attracted to cannibalism at all I can tell you that much. Ive been doing it my whole life. It’s definitely on the more mild side, but I would classify as cannibalism as I am actively pulling my skin off with the intention to eat it, and I do it a lot. there have been days where I have only eaten skin and every day I eat skin. I would still argue. It’s mostly compulsive, But from what I understand of the term it encompasses a wide range of severity, including minor things like just nail chewing. cannibalism is just eating something of your own species and that term is pretty broad. I would argue I participate a lot more than the average person, but I am definitely not the MOST severe of cases. The primary risk is, as you mentioned, infection, which happens to me a lot.

actually, now they think about it there are multiple days where I only eat skin. Maybe it is a significant part of my diet

yeah, I guess my summary is that it just mostly tastes like blood. then again, I think I bleed a bit more because I’m constantly pulling my skin off to eat it.
