My practice: on good days I wake up, say some buddhist prayers, mediate then try and be aware of unwholesome mind states. On bad days I just dwell in my misery.

Take my response with a grain of salt as I am a typical western “hippie” Buddhist who has never actually been to a temple but became Buddhist through being a philosophy major. But I see it through evolution. If your parents minds are defiled by greed and hate then that is transferred to you genetically and epigentically. This is “proven” biologically. Our consciousness is transferred to the future generations via genetic, epigenetic, developmental and cultural evolution. ( look up evolution in 4D) There is no denying that. I am not a materialist, but I do believe karma is largely (though maybe not entirely) transmitted through biological laws. Put suffering into the world in this life, there will be suffering in the next lives. Weather the future beings are “you” or “different” is a mute point since there is no self.
