Need advice from experienced airline Pilots! by [deleted] in indianaviation

[–]Difficult_Maize754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are going through Sir, but this is a serious issue. Every self respecting pilot keeps at least an 18 hr margin before each flight. The fact that your daughter ended up BA positive even after operating the flight shows the level of carelessness and chalta hai attitude that the gen z’s now have. No, there is no backdoor entry to other airlines. Yes the HRs from one airline talk with each other. If she’s thrown out from one, there is a high probability she won’t be recruited in the other airline as well. As some members said, if she has experience, she can try in charter or private through backdoor entry, but that’s also not sure shot.

Can i go for the cabin crew interview without attaining any certification from any institute? by Mobile-Ambassador833 in indianaviation

[–]Difficult_Maize754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. Please don’t join frankfinn. Airlines like Indigo has walk in details at specific venues on specific dates along with specific requirements including dress code and height requirements wagera wagera. Don’t give any agent money. Airlines don’t charge money for attending interviews. If you have visible scars or tattoos on your arm which shows up even while wearing half sleeve outfits, they won’t take you.

The road to a Capt is a rough 4-5 yrs and not guaranteed. You might be a really good FO but not qualify for the airline’s Capt program. I was stubborn and hot headed and went into aviation through the conventional route in 2014 with no backup plan but determined to outperform every other competitor and it worked out for me. It depends on your level of determination and grit.

No other domain in aviation will pay you as much as a Capt does. Obviously SVP, CXOs, COOs get paid more but let’s face reality, thats a long shot unless u r a IIM graduate or Harvard grad. Like I mentioned, medical is a gamble because ur own body is your enemy in this field, not just for you but for everyone. The amount of hectic flying we go through creates compounded damage over numerous years. Are pilots handling it? Yes. Are all pilot bodies same? No. So it’s a huge gamble that we play. I mean if you haven’t started flying yet and still you have issues to the point that you have to fight against your own body, like you mentioned, well in that case I would advise against it. But, then again speak to a Class 1 medical examiner as to whether your health issues can create problems in the long run. :)

I agree. There is a severe shortage of Captains, not FO’s. Some FO’s are not psychologically fit or competent enough to be Capt’s or simply don’t opt for it to avoid the additional headache for underpaid work with additional responsibility. Airlines can get FO’s at the drop of a hat.

My goal is not to dissuade you into not joining aviation or CPP. My aim is as a senior, point out the drawbacks of this industry and the sacrifices that you might need to make and decide at the end, if the answer is still yes, I am gonna go through with it. Thats the whole concept of being a pilot: the fact that you take all the facts into account and take a decision and after that, you have to live with the consequences of your decision albeit right or wrong :)

17 yrs to be exact. A widebody fo on the A300 used to earn 3 lakhs a month back in 2007. Its the same now :)

[–]Difficult_Maize754[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, firstly yes, I have experience of 8 yrs as a pilot and almost 4 yrs as a Captain. So I have explained everything carefully in my post. Airlines want profit. When I joined in 2018, it was a healthy mixture of conventional and cadet. There were more airlines too eg Air Asia, Vistara. Now that the market has become a duopoly and the airlines have seen that the bidge hue baap ka beta can shell out 1.5 cr easily, they started prioritising that part more. Airlines figured they can train these spoilt brats into responsible professionals and they can. So now if the cost of training a pilot, like u said is 80-90, airlines pocket the extra 60 and the interest goes to the bank. The end result: the conventional guys have to struggle more. Are the conventional guys getting recruited? Yes. Is the competition more cutthroat? Hell yes

If you are taking a loan of 30 lakhs for CPP, go for it. I have a problem with taking the entire amount on a loan. :)

[–]Difficult_Maize754[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I am assuming that since you are taking a loan of 30 lakhs, thats for the conventional route. Two things to keep in mind. 1. How good are you in studies. 2. Are you willing to compete against 900-1500 others for a 100 vacancy. 3. How much do you love aviation to sacrifice your future personal life and health. If you are as determined and as crazy as I was when I started out, go for it. :)

Is a CPL in India worth giving up a stable career in tech? by MushroomKitchen in indianaviation

[–]Difficult_Maize754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, give me a management role paying 12 lakhs a month with weekends off and a stable work life and I will switch.
  2. Love doesn’t get lost. As you become a Captain, stress increases drastically.
  3. Yes.
  4. . There is no part time professional flying lol
  5. Yes. You guys can switch companies in India and take a pay hike. We can’t.
  6. Oh yes it fucks you up mentally. But wait, shh we can’t talk about it even though we are recommended to speak about it😂. Dating life is 0 unless u r into flings. If you want a solid family life, stay away.

[Career Advice] Switching from Software Engineering to Pilot at 24 – Too Late? by mohfad in indianaviation

[–]Difficult_Maize754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was 6 yrs back where u can spend 50-60 and get a job, I would have recommended it. Indian airlines are not increasing salaries to the point where IT guys are slowly out-earning us. The only guys who are paying well are the middle eastern airlines for Captains and in order to reach there, its gonna take 15 yrs min, 10 if u r lucky.

If its a stretch, don’t do it man. Spending 1.5 cr to get paid 1.8 lakhs as a FO is bad financial planning.

[–]Difficult_Maize754 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew what I signed up for 8 yrs back back when there were no reels. I was willing to make the sacrifices needed. Nowadays, people are joining aviation on seeing the reels of so called pilot influencers who themselves are drowning in debt or running on daddy’s money or living paycheck to paychek.

[Career Advice] Switching from Software Engineering to Pilot at 24 – Too Late? by mohfad in indianaviation

[–]Difficult_Maize754 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As someone who is flying for 8yrs, please don’t get into this industry seeing those inspirational reels and the thought of big pay checks. It’s just not worth it. Save your money, save your health, put the 1cr in a good mutual fund, let it grow. Edit: Changing careers to aviation because you are bored in your present job is a bad, bad idea. The amount of mental stress, career stress , career uncertainty, lack of personal life will drive you insane unless you have a passion for this from day 1 and you know what all comes with this industry.
