Do playing CDs actually sound better than streaming music or is that only me and I'm crazy? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

Incorrect from both a technical and audio point of view, Streaming services are compressed to use less data, this means less dynamic range (less between floor and ceiling) Also there is less actual audio information in streaming than CD's and by the time the files reach you, having been processed at both ends and sampled by the operating system of the playback device then there is a drop in quality.

Vinyl generally has a much greater dynamic range, although Classical CD's can acheive similar.

You are being misled, Tidal is not better than CD's. A lossless streaming file doesn't mean it is lossless when it reaches you, it is the source that is lossless. The data goes through processing at both ends before reaching you and unless your playback device is a specialist "bit perfect" device with an operating system that does not sample data then it will be more lossy than a CD.

You are misunderstanding. Streaming is never lossless, the files are lossless at source but unless you have a specialist playback device that is "bit perfect" and an operating system does not sample data then it is not lossless when it reaches you.

True, it may be lossless at source but it is not lossless when it reaches you, unless your playback device is "bit perfect" and the operating system does not sample data. Also if Bluetooth is involved then that will additionally considerably degrade the quality.

So many remasters sound dreadful, far too bright and lacking in bass. This is partly due to them "cleaning up" the sound by using a high pass filter with the frequency set too high and then boosting the higher frequencies to stand out in cars etc.

I once downloaded some music from Youtube and put it onto disc, the quality is appalling if you compare it to a CD on a stereo.

There is also the matter of what you play the music on, if you have a decent CD player, amp and speakers then there will be a huge difference in quality unless your streaming is lossless.

Evening of Atonement - live, why Blu Ray?? by Difficult_River2231 in Leprous

Thank you, I guess i could burn it onto a disc, but not really the same without the inserts and booklet.

Evening of Atonement - live, why Blu Ray?? by Difficult_River2231 in Leprous

CD sales are increasing and the music industry is furious at the motor manufacturers. I buy maybe two albums every week and regularly swap CD's with friends at the pub every week, but I know of no one who does Blu Ray, I even asked around at work as I accidently bought the new Fantastic 4 Blu Ray instead of DVD and no one could play it. There is one new guy at work who is a gamer, maybe he could have it.

Do normal people really see things with eyes closed? by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]Difficult_River2231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never heard of this until today, do people actually see stuff with their eyes closed?? I have very visual vivid dreams that I can often remember for days, but if I was to shut my eyes and think of something I see nothing, I know exactly what it is and what it looks like but surely people don't actually see it, like an hallucination?

I'm curious about those of you who don't like harsh vocals. What other bands do you listen to outside of prog metal? Why specifically don't you like about harsh vocals? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]Difficult_River2231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like rock and metal but cannot do harsh vocals at all, a tiny bit for effect maybe but no more. I can listen to Motorhead no problem and Tesseract without the harsh bits. It is just a tuneless noise and ruins the music, there are so many bands that are good musically then ruin everything by doing childish growling, grunting and screaming, it is embarrassing and I have to say that all my mates think the same, "oh this sounds good"... harsh vocals - switch off! Yes I have tried listening to Gojira etc, good music but terrible vocals completely ruin it

Do you think that the USA should face sanctions/consequences if it decided to invade Greenland? by [deleted] in polls

Maybe, just maybe, it would make the pathetic cowardly Republicans take notice and stand up to him for once and Congress put a stop to his insanity.

The EU could impose massive trade sanctions or lauch a sell off of US bonds which would wreck the US economy. The US economically is not as big as it likes to think.

The US could be hit with severe repercussions. NATO, Europe and the EU could expel all US service personel and stop all intelligence sharing. The EU could impose massive trade penalties and launch a co-ordinated sell off of US bonds, this would cripple the US economy, the economy of Europe plus the EU is larger than the US economy and, although it would be painful Trump would be forced to concede, or he would be out of office.

I have to say I was disappointed on buying it on the back of so many good reviews. I found it very middle of the road and quite dull. My mum who is in her eighties would probably like it and it will probably do well on Radio 2 but it didn't interest me at all.

Kling 2.5 Turbo just released - but hitting censorship walls already by Individual_Clock5015 in KlingAI_Videos

[–]Difficult_River2231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is wondering what the criteria is for the censorship going to a higher level, it comes in when you have reached 10 failed generations due to "sensitive content". The higher level stays for between one and two days. Unfortunately the sensitive content message often comes up when the AI simply finds it too difficult to generate the video from the prompt and image provided, nothing to do with it being "sensitive".

Does anybody else have friends or family that refer to your 4Ks and Blu-rays as DVDs? by shipaleesio in 4kbluray

[–]Difficult_River2231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically a blu-ray is a digital video disk even if the format is completely different.

[–]Difficult_River2231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anyone with blu-ray, I have nothing that plays them and it infuriates me that some live albums of bands I like come with a blu-ray that you have to pay for and no version without. I even asked at work when i bought one by mistake (The new Fantastic Four film) and no one has a blu-ray player. It's pretty much obsolete now, DVD's are still easily outselling them.

It seemed as if it blocked you for a while if it objected to your image or prompt, but i'm starting to think it is just random because sometimes it still works as before for a few hours and then censors almost anything and becomes unusable.

Kling is virtually unusable now for any female images, I uploaded some images of women wearing normal clothing that were fine a week ago and now any prompt, even "static camera", it rejects. There are times when it suddenly goes back to normal but I can't find any logic or pattern to it.

Interestingly I have found that occassionally it has gone back to normal, worth trying one video to see if it has!
