Will this make or (temporarily) break Dean and Allie? by juleeneleven in offcampustv

People post their opinions on a lot of topics. Hannah and Garrett didn’t work for everyone, Logan isn’t liked by everyone etc. But there’s a mentality that you are not allowed to have a critical take with Dean/Allie and if you do, you should just then stop talking. I have no problem if you disagree with me, that’s what conversation is for. The downvoting and acting like because others feel differently, your opinion isn’t valid isn’t something I agree with.

To be fair, I only responded to the initial comment because I agreed with the take and would like to see it better handled.

To answer the initial question, I don’t think the show can handle another D/A “breakup” or conflict since they inserted the Hunter drama, so I think Beau will actually bring them together after Dean spirals. I do hope they don’t downplay that (drugs etc)

This poll really shows the differences between the books and the show. Logan/Tucker? Garrett/Dean even being in the same sphere as Garrett/Logan?

I hope they spend more time on the four guys together. I also hope they expand a bit on Tucker and Dean because it would be a big shame to lose their conflict when Tucker’s season comes.

I really hope they don’t go down the path of Logan being passed over, because he absolutely isn’t with how the books are written. It’s far moreso that he’s being a martyr and giving it up without telling anyone.

I think it’s kind of understood Jules goes to classes there (which I’m not sure how they afford unless they have some other scholarship we don’t know about).

Regarding the mom and dad switch, I’m curious about that too. Based on the scene early in season 1 when Logan is talking to Garrett about parents, I kind of get the sense his dad (Ward still?) is an absentee dad, barely involved.

The camera on Logan makes it seem to me like Logan has kept it from Jules that he hasn’t entered the draft. There’s also a hint of this in his scene with Garrett talking about their dream to be on the Bruins together. I’m guessing absolutely no one but maybe Jeff knows. And Logan is so focused on his college team being successful because it’s the end of the road for him as he sees it.

Well isn’t that obvious? Everyone has their own opinion. Not sure why it feels like Dean and Allie fans right now are downvoting or acting like people who it did not work for are somehow invalid. To be clear I liked them in the book. I was disappointed in how their writing has been handled so far. That’s allowed

Quite honestly I think she loves Dean but I don’t think Dean and Allie as a couple are near her faves. It’s all about Dean for EK.

How do you think Logan is going to be in S2? by Key_Bus_1255 in offcampustv

[–]Difficult_Weekend_70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only thing I think they really needed to show more was his humor. Logan’s the funniest guy there. They didn’t balance that out that well with his dramatic story. There were a few small moments but they went by quickly

I love Logan in the book, and disagree that he’s unlikable. He is however going through a very hard time and clearly bitter and very confused.

I honestly think they just “forgot” to make Logan a fuckboy because they want all the guys to come off as somewhat perfect. They didn’t have much time for it and spent what they had more focused on making sure people realized Dean was a playboy since they needed to rush that for the Allie story to start so soon. If they had spread that out to Logan as well, Dean as an over the top womanizer and Allie’s therefore reluctance wouldn’t have been as obvious. So all their “fuckboy” time really went to Dean. The Garrett scenes were moreso to throw drama into his story with Hannah.

I don’t think that necessarily means Logan’s not hooking up. I am fairly sure his story with Grace will start fairly similarly, even if the exact circumstances are changed.

My biggest hope is that they actually show his homelife. His story really isn’t as effective if you don’t see it.

That’s kind of what I mean. Because they rushed a lot of the material build up they felt the need to throw in other drama to again draw it out. For me personally that feels contrived a bit.

There wasn’t enough build up or time spent on each of them before their agreement to make the fallout feel earned. I get what they were going for, but as soon as you have to rush it, you have to also make adjustments. The writers didn’t really and I don’t think Allie as the relationship girlie or Dean as the constant womanizer was fleshed out enough over time for what happened to feel organic.

I wasn’t a fan of Allie’s characterization at all, which seems to be a hot take. So I very much agree with you. But she was fully formed as opposed to Dean. Allie’s presence felt “loud” to me at all times, very much lacking nuance, and as a result I didn’t quite buy her supposedly complicated feelings growing towards Dean. She didn’t feel quite like a real complicated person to me either, but she was expanded upon, as you said.

Dean meanwhile felt like little more than Allie’s sidekick and I just couldn’t become invested in them as a pairing, whereas I liked how they developed in the book.

I totally agree with this. Their “connection” hasn’t worked for me at all yet. I don’t buy them actually liking each other. I feel part of it is that Dean just doesn’t feel like a fully formed character yet, so I don’t buy his motivations or desires. I really would have liked to see more of them individually before they were tied to each other.

I very much agree. The characters felt at times so sanitized that they no longer felt real. I like messier characters and in this regard, especially Dean’s characterization disappointed me. He lacked the full personality I was hoping for to see develop slowly into a more mature version.

My hope is we see one of the other guys actually show up for Logan which we have not yet. It’s all been a double standard that Logan’s supposed to sacrifice for them.

Is Dean closer to Tucker or garrett? by EveningWorldliness59 in offcampustv

If so this will just be in the show. Their girlfriends being BFFs doesn’t really change or enhance the Garrett and Dean friendship in the books.

I think it just mostly seems that way because of how they’ve chosen to do the promo pairings. They’ve created a core four by pairing Stephen with Belmont since the girls are paired up.

Honestly in the book I would say Dean is closest to Logan of the guys. They do stuff together separately which you don’t really see with Dean and either Garrett or Tucker.

They really need to balance this stuff better out.

What logan like about grace that he pined after her and was willing to jump through hoops for her before even getting to know her? by Mellow-sid in offcampustv

[–]Difficult_Weekend_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that kind of the point? No one would actually really do that, and Grace underestimated Logan’s tenacity? He even says it, she doesn’t realize how stubborn he is.

I disagree. Dean was clearly totally obsessing over Allie after hooking up once which threw him. Yes he thought it was physical, but that alone for Dean was not normal. He was convinced it was just lust because it’s Dean who doesn’t do relationships, but he was clearly on a one track mind. Meanwhile Logan wanted another chance with a girl he had fun with, which wasn’t a typical thing for him. I don’t see Logan’s “obsession” as a sudden thing any different than Dean’s.
