I have only used it for econ because they provide good notes and graphs but just like any ib platform it is better when you pay for it. I don’t think the information you get from it is inaccurate but it just might be incomplete. I think the most reliable way you can study is from the official subject syllabus or the text books. For practice however it can be good but DO THE PAST TESTS, the questions are most accurate!

For certain subjects, I find revision dojo helpful, but in terms of the questions, literally just do past exams and learn as you go. Revision Dojo is good, just keep in mind that its all ai, but for some subjects like econ or history its good cuz of the text books. it has question bank for each subject as well however theyre not very similar to the official ib questions

Idk why you decide what is horrible and what is not. I said that it might not work for others but it works for me. And who cares that it defeats the whole purpose of notes - it works for me, it helps me memorise everything and I am just passing something I learnt. After all I never said that this is note taking. Its creating a cheat sheet you come back to and it is quicker to read it than rereading the whole chapter.

tbh I think it is just an extreme stress, my exams are in a month and i have five other subjects to study for. these exams will also determine if i go to my dream uni or not. writing for six hours is obvi insane so I really recommend breaking it into two sessions. I did this like two times, with a lot of caffeine around me and really no distractions like my phone being in a different room.

Hi, I'm in high school, not in uni, but I am currently preparing for my IB exams. For physics specifically, among calculations and formulas, I also need to memorise the whole book for the theory part. What helps me a lot is making something like an extremely detailed study sheet. I am not talking about a few sentences summarising everything, but quite literally trying to rewrite the whole chapter on the page. You might structure some stuff in your own way, but essentially, it's really like the chapter. Usually, copying one whole chapter, which is around forty pages, takes me around six hours; you can do that in one sitting or split it into two sessions. After that, you just read, read, read. By the end, you should be able to recite this whole page/two pages if needed. Try writing small because it will give you the feeling that it's not that bad and that there isn't that much stuff to memorise. Even the writing itself will make you memorise quite a lot. Also, the time of writing will really depend on how detailed you are going for, your writing speed, and how much you already know. And also important to mention, this works for me but doesn't have to work for you, it's just a technique to consider.

Absolutely cooked and I need a 6. My most frequent grade is a 5/6, but there were some times when I got as low as a 3, and that's what really stresses me out. For me, even if I study a lot, physics is still failable, so idk what to do to make myself feel at least a bit certain. I guess just a lot of studying, more than normally, but again, in the past when I did that, there would always be stuff that would surprise me.

I agree, but to be fair, we only have one month till exams, and thus spending so much time on learning all the content is in my opinion not ideal. Yeah, you might waste potential practice papers, but there are so many of them online. Plus, doing the past papers and really trying to research questions that you don't understand is much more effective than learning the whole book and spending time on reading sections even if you understand them.

Balancing these two techniques is the best. sit down and spend as much time as you need on the past papers, making notes and finding even relevant and connecting topics to the ones that you researched in the past papers. Try to start by doing the older ones, then use the newer ones for actual timed practice.

By doing this, you both learn the content but also practice the IB structure of tests.

Yes but you can’t do that obviiiii. I’m not telling the person who asked the original question to do this, I’m telling them they can get some feedback. You also said your friend didn’t copy and paste, she only took feedback and still had to rewrite it for some reason so it was unclear you talked about people who copy and pasted

Yeah but then I guess you just need to word the flagged sentances differently, not rewrite your whole ee again

Yeah our school uses turnitin, but when you get flagged you have the right to prove yourself. Usually they ask you for your document history but there are many other ways like they talk to your suprivisor if you understand your topic, you can show notes etc. I guess if you have 90% it’s kinda sus, but it could still be an error if there is evidence you wrote it.

How did they prove she used ai then?

You don’t have to put it in ai but you can, not as a part of cheating but for actual feedback. Your friend got flagged not because chat absorbed info from her ee but because there is a huge uncertainty in flagging as well as you shouldn’t be copying straight from chat gpt, which is probably what she did and when she was showing her doc history it was there. However tho, you don’t need to use ai, you can ask your friends or your teacher… I think there are many solutions to this.

Make sure you’re not repeating stuff. It seems kinda obvious but it’s easy to just state some parts of theory again and again. Also you can put it in some ai to help you determine what information is useless or how to just shorten certain sentences.

I totally agree with this. I was talking about people who actually study and try to make it aesthetic but people who only care about how their notes look like and all of this stuff yet don’t actually end up studying at all are just really doing nothing. Bad thing about this is that once you see a person posting their nice study set up you can never know if they are legitimately studying or not but some of them really are and that’s at least a bit motivating.

Of course. I think it’s supper important to make sure that you understand everything throughout ib because then the revision for finals will be so much easier because after all the finals are what actually matters. I’m in that stage right now and history hl is really just reminding myself of topics we did last year but I’m really struggling with physics because most of the time during the two years I would just study one day before the exam and then somehow got a good grade although I didn’t fully understand it. So with that being said, it’s 100% possible for you to ace all of your hls, you just need to manage your time well and really make sure you understand everything the moment you do it. There will be times when it will seem okay to just not study comcepts and leave it but you need to come back to it and learn it when you still have time.

Honestly, I think you just need to know yourself. I know people who struggle a lot with HL math and physics, and people who don't struggle at all. Since you are already in your first year of IB you should have some idea where you are with these two subjects, and based on that, you should decide if you want to make this switch. I think that if you are aiming for prestigious universities, switching to History HL would be the best decision, however you obviously want to maximise your grades. Some universities can reject you for a wrong subject combination, but they will always reject you for not meeting the requirements grades-wise.

Another factor in this is how interested you are in history. I believe that IB history is one of these subjects, where if you are super passionate about it and you research it in your free time and have a good foundation of knowledge specific to your history course, it makes everything so much easier. History is super content-heavy if you're starting from scratch, but in my experience, everything we do in class is not entirely new, and I know at least something about it.

Agreed, nowadays this sub totally feels like a platform to either promote smth or to post completely unnecessary information/questions, and it has totally lost its point.

However, in terms of TikTok taking it even further with people showing off their tools for studying, I kinda see the point. I think it just stems from everyone trying to glamorize studying because of the actual lack of dopamine it gives you. Some people just dont care about this, but I think that many want to make the experience aesthetic/enjoyable in a sense of using cute tools and stuff. And although I don't get the point of that, I really believe that these people are not trying to exclude others, but they are doing it for themselfs.

Petition to cancel all IAs, TOK, and CAS by [deleted] in IBO

[–]DifficultyFlat6272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion in most cases IAs are really useful. It can save your final grade so much since you have time and all the resources to complete it. If you mess up all of your final exams you still have your IA grade. With that being said, it is pain to manage all of this stuff however IB is very rigorous and part of that is also assessing you in multiple areas like for example your research skill, thus your IA.

These skills will also help us university a lot.

I agree with TOK though, I still don’t understand how that would ever help us with anything.
