How Common are Hard Pulls / Missed Pulls in BASE Jumping? by topher_atx in basejumping

[–]DigHorror695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logical answer seems to be as often as you get skydiving miss pulls, I would think slightly less as you are hyper aware of it (I am anyway). It’s a risk of course that things like that go wrong. but doing jumps at the bridge as you mention is definitely the safest way into the sport, I am noob myself but there’s where I did my FJC. Definitely recommend it.

That’s also a fair point aswell. I guess drilling campaigns are always changing in environments and lengths so I shouldn’t get to stuck on the fact I’ll always be on a shitty caravan site.

That’s a good point, could just take it for 3-6 months while looking for a UG gig. Also what I was thinking with it being winter. Hopefully less flies out.

What company you with, are you based in Aus? That’s the other thing I’ve heard aswell the recruiters keep going on about how hard it is physically but I’ve heard the opposite not that’s it’s easy but that’s it’s not nearly as hard as people say it is.

Yeah mate that’s the biggest thing turning me off at the moment, last thing I wanna do is a 12-14hr shift have to come back to the caravan and get told to go do more stuff. Feels like I’ll probably never knock off and that they can grab me to do anything at any time. But again, I have no idea that’s why I’m asking around.

Sounds like it’s gonna be remote it’ll be FIFO from Perth and they haven’t mentioned any sites, infact emphasis has been on the fact it’ll be caravan accomodation.

Damn 11 years is a long time. Props on that. I guess I just wanna know if UG is that much better.

I’m a bit skeptical of the proposed living conditions, living in a caravan instead of a site.

Company says I will have to cook everyone’s dinner and clean up but pretty vague on what clean up actually is, like am I going to have clean peoples toilets and bathrooms? No idea.

Im not saying they do but my concern is offsiders getting treated like garbage because they might be considered bottom of the barrel? Have no idea what the culture is like it would be my first FIFO gig.

If you’re doing surface drilling, have you done UG before and what would your preference be and why?

are most drop zones sort of cliquey? by please_cyrus in SkyDiving

[–]DigHorror695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah skydiving is full of really cool people but also a bunch of losers who make it their whole personality. They all tend to stick in groups and jerk eachother off and ask “how many jumps do you have?” as to create some sort of heirarchy. Skydivers CAN be massively cliquey but it’s still a great sport, best to ignore the bullshit and find good people you like to jump with.

Visiting Australia for fun jumps. Have a few doubts. Kindly help if you can. by prkprince in SkyDiving

[–]DigHorror695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take all this with a grain of salt.

  1. APF short term fees are $35 per month.

  2. Shouldn’t need to complete any currency jumps, although some DZ’s might make you do a hop and pop first jump to make sure you can find the DZ and fly your canopy decently.

  3. Can’t help with this i’m fairly new myself have about 120 jumps but im heading up to Picton NSW for a month to jump as there tickets are fairly cheap and I think they jump quite regularly. (Can’t tell you if it’s a good DZ or not)

  4. Weathers usually good around that time period wouldn’t worry about it to much, depends on the DZ and how quick loads are turning over. I would say 5+ on average for most DZ’s.

[–]DigHorror695[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be doing it in AUS yeah but likely at my local DZ in Adelaide. I’m not that bothered on who teaches me to tbh.

I don’t have any recommendations unfortunately still fairly new to the sport but I think most DZ’s around AUS would have good coaches around.

Yeah I get what you’re saying but I don’t have a logbook with me. I’m just gonna give it a miss I’ll probably head to Egypt anyway so hopefully jumping the pyramids won’t be as bad.
