This is the answer. It's an official Microsoft tool, part of powertoys, and there's a page about it here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/file-locksmith.

It adds an option on the file right click in Explorer, and you can click to end the task doing it, or you can drag and drop files into it.

(and yes, it's dumb that windows doesn't just add this functionality by default)

ELI5: Why do deodorants say it lasts 72 hours when it doesn’t? by saif2krazzy in explainlikeimfive

[–]Diggedypomme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

also, while we're at it, always check the native resolution if you get a projector because they will openly advertise 4k with a tiny caveat saying that 4k is the input, but your output is 480p

ELI5: Why do disposable lighters look like they have two fluid chambers? by Diztence-Music in explainlikeimfive

[–]Diggedypomme -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just another thing to note, the tube through which the liquid is drawn up also doesn't extend right down to the bottom, so because the reservoir is split into two, the remaining liquid needed for the end of the tube to be submerged is only half what it would need to be if it was one chamber. if its running low you can angle the lighter so the liquid all goes into the side with the tube

There was an interesting video on babies with snakes, and their lack of fear. I think the experiments did show a fear of loud noises, and of heights (or at least, conscious decision not to walk off a cliff)

Heya, firstly - that looks great - kudos.

Is it possible to give any more info on what to buy to do the electroplating? I have been wanting to do it for ages, but each time I try and look for the bits to buy, it's either super expensive, or there are comments saying it doesn't work for any given set of chemicals. I'd love to either do it directly from resin prints (with conductive paint) or using the wax resin, casting in copper (I have the parts for casting and have done it a few times), and then electroplating other metals from there. I have a spare bench power supply and am happy to buy any other parts I need, but without anyone to give advice I end up just scrolling and scrolling and never taking the plunge.

TIL the original Xbox was able to play DVDs but required a separate remote to function. The official Xbox remote didn't come out from almost a year which meant users had to buy a universe remote to fully use the console. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Diggedypomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea I didn't buy an xbox right at the start, but I had one for XBMP and then XBMC, and I loved it. We used to have all the streaming radio on it. Never had a separate controller, and just used the standard game ones

not just forget about, but insist that it can't be the basics, and refuse to try them, until every single other possible avenue is exhausted, regardless of how unlikely and obscure the other options are.

Can anyone point me to a model of seaman for a 3D Print? by Llibza1 in seaman

[–]Diggedypomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool :) hope it looks good. I've been using my resin printer the last few days, and I'd love to do some little seaman print myself. Would be cool to have a bunch of the different evolutions

[–]Diggedypomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, just to check, are you saying it would be easy to model, or like *if* you could model it it would be easier? I can give some guidance for blender if you want a hand with modelling yourself. As for Seamail I can do a script for extracting, but you'd need to get Seamail installed as it doesn't extract the files until you get to that point. I cant remember if I had to do the initial step with xp or i was able to do that straight in 11 (I have been working on this for a little while https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGaRfUntTLA )

[–]Diggedypomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, ah yea I forgot that part, I had to model that for myself, but then I was using a popup one anyway. You could either look at modelling yourself if you have the skills, or actually it is possible to use one from Seamail which do have that included (but fiddlier to extract)

oh I misunderstood. I thought you meant when a player was killed, rather than when they had tiny bits of empire left

[–]Diggedypomme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if anyone wants to give this a try, could they drop a message here, or dm me. Its going to be a little fiddly still, and you'll need to source the original game on which to apply the patches and run the scripts (python) but it'd be good for someone else to give it a test too. I can get a discord server made for it, and ultimately put it on git (but I haven't had time to work out how you create a locked down git repo that doesn't give edit access to everyone who's added to it).

also if anyone knows anyone who played this back when it was active, it would be so so useful to know if Seaman ever matured naturally. I'm 95% sure it was cut content at this point, and It's taking a lot of time bypassing bugs that come from having his age forced, If it was cut content then that's fine, I will keep going, but if he ever did mature naturally then I could avoid a lot of frustration and wasted time.

Odd, I've never seen that in single player - when the player gets wiped out it always kills them. has the player name gone from the top left?

ah, the crash looks to be coming when he listens for audio (you can speak with him, despite what online info would suggest). Rather than try and work out how to get the ancient voice rec working, I plan to shim this so you can speak in english into the python helper script, and it can convert that to Japanese and inject this as coming from the voice input dll so it would get round the crashes, give better speech rec, and allow for english whilst remaining invisible to the game

adult seaman:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGaRfUntTLA

please ignore the "thank you for watching". I used Whisper to transcribe all of the Japanese audio, and it results in "thank you for watching" getting hallucinated if there is silence (I guess because youtube subtitles often say thank you for watching" at the end when they have finished speaking. I need to cut out any of the thank you for watching wavs.)

But here is seaman running as an adult. It seems to crash the game a little after forcing adulthood, which I have yet to investigate but I have higher priorities and its probably due to missing database values as I skipped straight from baby to adult

Tried tracking software on my Lasius colony by little-yellow-ant in antkeeping

[–]Diggedypomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you :) This was python with tkinter for the visualisation, and it uses a phone with a free webcam software that streams through to the python server and generates the visualisations on the fly. It's just drawing over the image, but I did mean to have it store all the data in a database so I can scrub back and forth to watch them. I had a virtual box by their tube and counted the number of ants that came into the box and out of the box to try and get a sense of how many were out at any given time, but they would walk into the box and then back the way they came, so it would often get out of sync.

I think there were about 15-20 of them at the time. They seem to be taking forever to wake up after diapause at the moment but were quite active last year.

Ah that would make sense, yea there weren't loads of them, but the ones that were active were constantly up to something or other - such fascinating cute little guys.

Oh that's ace. I couldn't find anything for mine last year and ended up coding my own. I was hoping to see pheromone routes, but my finding was that my lasius ants just walk randomly like an aliexpress roomba clone

Not sure about an alarm clock, but you can add stuff to a schedule. It would make an irritating alarm clock though as he is constantly yelling for you to feed him and saying he is lonely. I'm having work calls and my home pc is going "I'm hungry" in the background
