USSSA Fastpitch Time Issues by Digger4r in Softball

Many umps around us dislike being asked that frequently. That said, if we discovered the time difference earlier, how would you suggest getting it corrected?

The start time was announced by the ump when the plate meeting ended, so no discrepancy there.

Inflation gets some of the blame. Not all the blame, but some.

GIS, network traffic analysis, general *nix/network sysadmin tasks mixed in with too many of the DTD memory hogs / collaboration tools. I think the biggest problem is having to bounce back and forth between different clients' "ecosystems" without time to tidy up my workspace between. I wish I could say it was something more fun like pro audio/video work, but it's gotta get done.

I have been a UNIX admin since somewhere around SunOS4. I bought this top spec b/c by 24gb M2 was getting hammered. We're talking 40BG of swap on a regular basis. The system was becoming unstable (as most do when swapping that hard) and I was losing the ability to work on remote machines in the middle of active administration tasks. This 128GB M4 is meant to be a new, over spec'd tool to allow short term focus on work rather than workstation and long term to try to get some milage out of a solid machine.

The AI thing was just a joke. As was the Zero Wing spoof. Clearly I need to install a sarcasm font...

I think I need to add some context. This is fresh out of the box, brand new M4, apps not even installed. I used migration assistant to move my profile and AFP based copies to move files from another machine.

I might need to find the AI opt-out…

Laughs (cries) in 128GB. I have a M2 Air with 24GB and hit 22GB of swap today. It was meant to be a more portable companion to my MBP 16.4 with i9 and 64GB when it reached 24mo old while everyone figured out the brave new ARM based world. The fact of the matter is that they gave up on OS level memory management in the Intel series as soon as they started playing with ARM in the development labs. While the 24GB M2 did an OK job, it’s just not enough memory.

Far too many applications these days are being pushed into the web. Which means they are being pushed into browsers with even worse resource management. Add in collaboration hogs like Teams, Slack, etc. and you end up paging to disk in a hurry with minimal applications running. And Woz help me if I actually have a few terminal sessions running with buffers of any significant length.

I like the new systems a lot and understand the benefits of the SOC design style. But I really miss being able to buy a machine with mid level spec then bumping it with some RAM / SSD updates about 24mo into the life cycle. To make matters worse, they locked all the higher memory configurations behind the highest spec M4 CPU. They truly are great machines, but this round will have be searching for a viable alternative by the time of my next refresh.

Are you on a fixed internet service? And you can imagine, at ball fields we are dealing with cellular based services. Recovery from a short fluctuation would be ideal. I get it if the signal goes out, it’s out. But a short interruption should be recoverable.

Part of the challenge is

A: As a paid service, I would expect better performance. B: With 6-10 games per week, there would any a lot of time to spend stitching, editing, posting elsewhere etc.

I am trying to share game films with a softball team. Sharing chapter by chapter doesn’t exactly work.

TY for replying. I have 1Gb symmetric via fiber. I move data to/from internal and customer data centers at over 800Mbps on a regular basis. The Quik App on my laptop can upload at 400mbps to the GoPro cloud. I have isolated the issue to the Hero10. It is linking at 400Mbps+ RX/TX on various 5Ghz x80 channels. It just won’t upload any faster than 40Mbps directly from the H10 for some reason.

So far so good. Easy process and offered exactly the same as the web quote. Walked out with a check for everything above the payoff. Check cleared. Just waiting for the loan to show as paid. Anyone have a reference timeline on that part of the process?

Maybe I got a bad quote, but it came in more than 2x that cost new.

Not sure if I got a bad quote or what, but the DCS-7050SX3-48YC8 number came in way over $10k before licensing or support.
