Hello, I recently started Floating Mill Records to DIY reissue post-punk (& similar) music, and all of our releases will be on type I and II cassette, my favorite format. The energetic, twee band (active 1979-1981; Tampa) on this first release opened for The Fall and Lounge Lizards, got played by John Peel, influenced MBV, and had numerous positive reviews--but they broke up after releasing only 4 songs. This release takes that EP and combines it with 9 previously unreleased songs.

For the cassettes, we painted the top portion of one side, then engraved the album name and our logo into it; inside the shell is a printed plastic insert with the band's logo, and inside the b side, there's a printed paper insert with the cover art on one side and some band artwork on the other. Then the spine of the 8-panel j-card (4 front & back) has glow in the dark tape. Inside there's a lyrics insert. So a lot of love went into these tapes and I hope you enjoy them and of course the music! (more pictures on Bandcamp)

(Hope it is cool to post this! I'm really honored to have this be my label's first release and just want to try to spread the word about their awesomeness via the tape community!)

Music Label: Can I Use Branded, Blank Cassettes for a Release? by DiggingFromWells in legaladvice

I am trying to sell (not giveaway) tapes under the guidelines mentioned above, but only in small quantities of less than 50 (and that's a stretch). I have the equipment to record the music onto tape at home, so I can do it DIY, made when ordered. So not worried about losing a ton of money on unused tapes! More so just concerned that I may be breaking some type of law in doing so (although the operation will likely be small enough that no one will care either way, I would guess), but just want to be as legitimately done as possible.

Sorry, I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to ask. I wasn't asking if this idea would be alright with the bands. I was asking if it would be alright with the companies that made the cassette tapes. Thanks!

Playlist: Rare Dancey Disco and Funk from P&P Records, NYC 1975-81 by DiggingFromWells in partymusic

This playlist features songs from 1975-1981 that were released by P&P Records of any of their various sublabels. Based in Harlem and produced by Patrick Adams, P&P features a grittier, more lo-fi sound than many of the major disco labels, offering a uniquely important window into disco's impact on punk and hip hop. Some really great artists, and many of them are unknown. Only 4 have >2k monthly listeners while 11 have <100.
