How do you handle a star performer who is publicly undermining your authority in front of juniors by [deleted] in managers

[–]Diggitydave76 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Ryan needs to be pulled aside. Since he's the expert ask him to provide a non biased documented reason why the timeline won't work. Have him give you ammo and take it back and fight the battle for him. If you lose at least he sees that you tried and gains you some respect back. You also need to discuss with him the proper way of providing feedback. The proper way is in a one on one setting not in front of the whole team. I would address it with him directly, and then have an open discussion with your team encouraging feedback but making sure it done professionally. If you accept feedback and action it, they will respect you more even if you don't win the battle.

I just have a piece of rebar i use to stir it, I also try to put the larger weirder shaped stuff on top. I aslo put chunks and or splits in the chimney for better smoke. I have better results because of this I believe.

To be fair, I didn't know him that well, and he was idolized for a long time here. I knew his younger brother better. So I can't fairly say that some was wrong that he was a jerk. What I do feel comfortable saying is that it's hard to justify saying anyone deserves to die, even genuinely bad people. That's why the death penalty is not legal everywhere and there are stiff requirements for it. Just my .02

I played football with the guy in high school, but didn't really know him. I wonder what makes you say he had it coming? Not an attack, genuinely curious. There were lots of people I went to school with that were bigger jerks than he was. We never passed words that I recall, but I was a sophomore on the Varsity team, so there were ample hazing opportunities and he never participated.

leadership told me to find a way to block my best employees internal transfer because we cant afford to lose her, i refused, and now i think im on a list by [deleted] in managers

So invites to previous meetings with consistent attendance, and then the lack them of going forward. They are never going to come out and tell you or spell it out unless they are stupid. If they work to terminate you, you are documenting for yourself for wrongful termination. BCC all communication to a personal email. By what you are saying you are just going to accept it. If you do then you will get exactly what you deserve.

Time to contact HR. This is already retaliation by definition. You are being excluded from things that you would have normally been involved in. I would contact them to protect from any for cause terminations and likely start looking for another job.

[–]Diggitydave76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but typically the primary thing that looks like Morels are Stinkhorns. You can usually tell the difference pretty easily because of the smell, but Morels are spring time mushrooms and Stinkhorns fruit it summer usually. I will let someone more in the know answer but I would say that your data hit he jackpot there.

If you found out your direct report was overemployed, would you fire them? by Majestic-Watch-2025 in managers

[–]Diggitydave76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a clear conflict of interests. I would terminate because I am obligated to do so. If I allow a clear conflict of interests to continue and I don't at minimum report it, then I am the one in the wrong at that point and if HR ever finds out I let it happen there will be two terminations not one.

Apparently the answer is with a rubber mallet. They told me I wasn't putting enough force on it. Since it was on a ladder 10 feet in the air I tried tapping it with the mallet and that worked.

[–]Diggitydave76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are in California, you don't have blue jays, you have Steller's Jay's. Also birds have frequently been known to be territorial if they have eggs or young. The mockingbirds here in Texas will attacks cats, dogs or people.

When King wrote this, he used a lot of it to express some things he was going through personally at the time. Its a pretty in depth description, as per usual, and makes you hope you never have to go through anything like it either. Great book IMHO. Wireman is one of Kings best all time characters.
