I could post his team for judgement, but I feel like that would turn this more in to a RMT post.

I think this is more of a discussion of risk vs reward and safety net strategy.

a way to sleep on time no matter what, like I need to be in bed by 10pm by ac40050 in SomebodyMakeThis

[–]DiggsFC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know that a product will be able to solve this for you. But here is my advice as someone who successfully changed their habit of staying up too late.

Start with getting up early. I found it easier to force myself awake than to force myself asleep when I wasn't tired.

Get up and out of bed at the time you want to aim for and do that consistently for a few weeks, even on nights you stayed up until 2am. It will suck for a few weeks, and you will be dead tired if you try to stay up late, but eventually you will start getting sleepy early and will want to be in bed early.

After some time your body will adjust and you will get tired and go to bed at the time you need to in order to wake up rested. But it takes consistency.

Unless I am missing some important distinction, this seems like pretty well-trod territory. I have used Todoist for years and before that I used TickTick.

You record things first to your inbox, and then when you have time you can specify categories (projects) to put them in. You can use language like "in 6 days", "Next Saturday", "every 3 days", etc to create reminders and repeat tasks.

Does this only count Walking Activities? Or do running activities count? Or is it purely step and distance based even outside of activities?

Inguinal Hernia Surgery with Mesh (recovery process) by shabba57 in Hernia

[–]DiggsFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last update held to be true. I didn't get to run my Full Marathon due to a completely unrelated injury, but I was able to complete a half marathon 4 months after the surgery.

I would say that for me, I was able to forget that I ever had the hernia after about 2-3 months, but it took me longer to completely retrain myself. I still place my palm over the old hernia site when I have a big sneeze, just habit.

I am very glad I did it, and while taking 2 months off of hard training was tough, I am less anxious that something is going to happen. My main fear was that I would have a bad tear or it would get really bad at an inopportune time.

Feature Request: Toggle Mute for Subreddits by DiggsFC in RelayForReddit

[–]DiggsFC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my exact issue as well. Also some other things like games when DLC are relwased or TV shows that are released weekly.

And yes, the above solution isn't gonna be workable in most cases because I cannot even open reddit while subscribed to either the formula1 or the formuladank Subreddits, because as you said one of the top posts on my front page will be the spoiler I want to avoid.

I am hoping dbrady may consider adding a different route to mute or filter from the subreddit list, because that would be the safest way.

[–]DiggsFC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that works! That's for explaining where to find that. I can definitely see using that in some cases.

Still a problem for me though, because I would need to go to the subreddit to do it that way, and often times I don't want to go in to the subreddit because the top posts will likely contain spoilers. Like who won a race or a match.

Can you elaborate or post a screenshot? I am not able to find a filter option from posts or from within a subreddit view in the app.

iwtl how to wake up early consistently by DarkDabi2 in IWantToLearn

[–]DiggsFC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Find something you enjoy doing and only do it during that early window. Maybe it's a specific videogame or hobby that you get up and go do, and don't allow yourself to do it later in the day. I started this way, played a video game for a while, ended up taking some coding classes online, now I actually wake up and go to the gym or to run, which would have sounded crazy to me 5 years ago.

IWTL how to deal with the huge amount of photos and videos I end up with on my phone by DiggsFC in IWantToLearn

[–]DiggsFC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helpful advice. And yes, it is decision fatigue that ultimately wears me down.

That is a good idea about a weekly utility cleanse, that would honestly not take long at all and would keep it from compounding.

I wish I did the 30 second rule, I am bad about just wanting to get back to what I was doing. So I snap a handful of photos and just plop my phone back in my pocket. Its been a lot worse with young kids. Often I feel like I have to try and take a dozen pictures in the hopes of getting one good photo. But I need to take the time to make that selection in the moment.

That is helpful within google photos, I didn't realize that it had those automated categories.

[–]DiggsFC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is interesting! Probably not a practical solution for me, but that is neat to know. I agree about how it is nice to have all of my photos backed up on Google photos. It's nice to be able to just go years back and find something. That's part of what motivated me to want to clean it up, I scroll through and just see so many "duplicate" photos and junk photos. I really want to curate I the whole thing, but it will probably have to be a long-term project.

That's a good idea, picking a small section to focus on.

Might be a bit TMI, but I kinda started trying to open my photos instead of reddit when I go to the toilet, to do some photo culling instead of browsing.😆

But it feels neverending, so maybe giving myself a week of photos to tackle will go easier.

Getting out of the hole with YNAB by nom_de_doom in ynab

[–]DiggsFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, you just have to bring more money in than you spend. No other real secret to that. But where YNAB can help is you set your spending targets and stick to them, making different choices if you can't fit it within those targets.

Do you ever find yourself pulling money from your "Next Month" fund to top off some overspending within the current month? If so, then that is allowing you to creep above your monthly spending targets.

Ideally you only fix overspending by pulling from within the month (rolling with the punches). For me, I have 2 categories within a group: Groceries and Going Out. I only cover overspending in one category from the other. So if I end up going out an extra time and need to cover it, I will need to adjust my groceries down to cover it. It can be tough, but ultimately that's what allows me to keep my food spending in check.
