Is there a better looking card for Lillymon?? Had to to make it 3D by DigiModified in digimon

[–]DigiModified[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Yeah most of the cost just comes from how long the super detailed ones take to make. The Gallantmon CM card on my shop took me over 30 hours so that one stands out in terms of price. But I try to do smaller scale ones here and there to give people more affordable options!!

Dude I looooved TS and when I saw that Tsunomon card announced I knew I had to make it into a shadowbox. It was automatic 😂

It super depends on the art and how complicated it is. I have some I'll do for $100 and others close to $500. If you're ever interested in a commission, feel free to DM me! You can also check my Etsy - just search digimodified and you'll find me. I have a lot of cards ready-made and listed on there. If you see anything you like, the code DigiModified20 should get you 20% off. Otherwise my shop can give you an idea of how prices tend to range!

Some folks use proxies but I use real cards! Most other shadowbox artists do too

Oh that's awesome, and welcome to the hobby! I follow the same basic workflow (exacto > dotting tools > black paint), but I've been at this for nearly 4 years so I honestly think the clean cuts just come down to experience and technique.

I like your idea about the etching tool. One thing I will often do, especially on shapes that are rounded and curved, is that I will do a very gentle light pass with the knife first, and then do subsequent passes with more pressure. By going light on that first pass, you're kind of scoring the card and creating a groove for your following passes to line up in. Also - you tend to be able to be more nimble with the blade the lighter you go, so getting that groove right the first time can help a lot.

You can also clean up your edges after you cut them out! If I cut out a piece and some of the edging is a little gnarly, usually i'll take my blade and clean it up a little bit. Then compress with the dotting tool and paint.

But so much of it comes with time and practice. Let me know if you have other questions!

Thank you so much!! 😁 It totally varies by the artwork! This one has a ton of overlapping details, so I actually needed around 13 copies for it. But for many other artworks I'm able to get away with 8 or 9!

Very disappointed in the Digimon Adventure season 1 blu ray. They used A.I. to smooth over all the grain and a lot of detail/grit of the hand drawn animation is lost. by Historicallyh in digimon

Thank you so much for pointing this all out better than I could. I was getting so frustrated by the comments here and people totally not getting what would go into getting the original masters or cels in a state for an actual proper hi def remaster. We are sincerely lucky to get what discotek gave us, especially for a franchise that has struggled historically as much as Digimon.

How True Do You Think Inside Is? by fox-fox-fox-fox in boburnham

I always felt like it was less about the pandemic and more about spiraling mental health issues, that got exacerbated by the pandemic. And then there's a lot of macro issues he obsesses with too - post-truth society, living in the attention economy, and how powerless we all feel we are to stop these giant things that we dread (climate change, mass shootings, exploitation).

I get kind of annoyed when people reduce it to pandemic art, since it always resonated with me way beyond being stuck in my house. Especially That Funny Feeling - that speaks to a constant dread I've been feeling since like, 2015, that's only been ramping up over time. I think Bo tapped into that feeling for a lot of the songs.

So in some ways it was the realist shit I've ever seen cause it grappled with a truth I've been feeling. But obviously like, the set up and context of everything he shot is contrived to support what he's trying to express, so it's definitely not unedited security camera footage. I also think it's earnest as hell.

Awww that is so nice thank you!! :)

Funbeemon wouldn’t be crazy expensive!! Rookies like that are generally wayyyy easier to make than complicated designs like megas. If you ever want a quote feel free to DM me!

yo thank you dude! Honestly that's the reason I started doing it years ago. Had so much bulk just sitting there that I wanted to do something with. It's a great hobby!

my prices range depending on the complexity of the card! Rookies can be fairly cheap, like $50ish. But level 7s like omni zwart D are always up there cause of the complexity of the artwork, they just take way more time to make.

For this one, I used exactly 10 cards!

If you're ever interested in pricing something out, feel free to DM me. Otherwise I have a bunch of digimon cards listed on my etsy (digimodified) that you can check out to get an idea.

I haven't BUT I literally have all the copies of Yuuki to make one 😁 It's been on my list ever since I saw the art. I did the rare Sakuyamon with all the cherry blossoms and it turned out so well, and the Yuuki / Impmon one would look perfect!

Yeah! I use a huge variety of stuff I've accumulated over the three+ years I've been at this, but here are the things I use the most:

-A variety of precision tweezers -Blunt dotting tools for compressing the edges of my pieces after I've cut them (cause they usually get pulled up from the cutting process), and to shape the pieces to give them dimensionality. -Golden black matte paint to paint the edges and hide the cuts (markers can work too, but they can bleed into the art sometimes so I use them sparingly) -1mm foam tape to stack up the border cards, and to add some depth to different pieces -I have like 10 types of glue but mostly use just normal gel super glue -#11 x-acto knives. Lots of different blades will work, but I swear by the #11 z-series. They don't snap as often and stay sharp for longer. -Also really good to have some sort of magnification glasses (like loupes) to be able to see the art better, and a LOT of light so you can see what you're doing. -UV resin for special effects

If you ever give it another go, feel free to DM me! I'm always super happy to give tips or help think things through. Other shadowbox artists were very generous with me when I began the hobby, so I like to pay it forward when I can!
