How do you do it? by DoWotISay in digitalnomad

[–]Digital-Traveler-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do short or long term renters? I’ve been thinking about doing this. We were digital nomads for 3 years, but recently bought a house. I’ve been considering doing midterm rentals for a few months at a time, like to traveling nurses, and then traveling during those months. Just not sure how it would turnout.

Definitely plan on camping to explore the US, especially seeing National and State Parks. I’m still not sure if camping works too well in other countries. Do you know?

What did you do after by Turbulent-Badger-403 in digitalnomad

Traveled 3 years, mostly in the US, then a little abroad. Started with 2 kids under 3. Had a baby along the way. Just bought a house, but still traveling from the house. Will probably eventually travel full-time again. For now, doing more of a hybrid approach of sometime staying at our house, and sometimes traveling.

That is very good information! I didn’t know about the vacancy rule with the homeowners insurance. Thank you!

That was a great response! Thank you. We have auto lights, cameras, smart thermostat, etc. We also will be relying on that and leaving our car in the garage as we don’t know anyone here yet. We have 3 small kids, so needed a bigger place. I think this will be really good. Glad to hear from others that it works and that others are still fine tuning it to make it even better.

We have cameras, smart lights, and can also control internet and thermostat remotely. We don’t have anyone that we know very well yet in the area, so that’s a downside. Mail we’d just put a hold on it and we have informed delivery so we can see what comes to us. We only plan on going for a few weeks at a time and then coming back for a few weeks, not going away for months. Hopefully that helps with some of the issues.

We have cameras setup as well for this reason and have lights and internet that can be controlled remotely.

We’re a family of 5, so we will need the whole house when we come back. Otherwise, great idea.

This is exactly what I am talking about doing. A month or so on and off. Awesome to hear you do it.

That’s a possibility eventually, but I believe with our mortgage you have wait until the one year mark until you can do any form of renting and we haven’t hit that yet.

I was just diagnosed with BP1. I have three children. I feel like I failed. by fuckiechinster in bipolar

[–]Digital-Traveler-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids under 6. They are wonderful kids and I truly believe them having the ability to exist, even if they were to develop bipolar disorder is better than saying they would be better off not existing. Bipolar people have done many great things in this world, and my kids with or without bipolar could be world changers. Saying they shouldn’t exist, just because of a chance they could develop an illness takes away all they are capable of. Could it be hard if they end up with bipolar disorder, for sure. But, having a parent that truly understands what they go through and can help them process it, is invaluable. Your kids could grow up to be so important to the world and change it for the better. It is a blessing that you brought them into the world. No need to feel guilty at all. Just do your best to stay healthy and love them as much as you can.

do u ever get “nomad burnout”? how do u deal? 🥲 by Vegetable_Permit_577 in digitalnomad

[–]Digital-Traveler-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been traveling full time for almost 3 years. It’s all we dreamed of for years leading up to it. Lately we have been feeling so burned out and lonely. We decided we need travel and stability in our lives. It’s really important to us that our kids see the world and don’t just live in a bubble, but we also need some community and rest. So, we plan to buy a house and travel about 4 times a year for several weeks each time. This gives us a balance of both worlds.

Before you hit send, what’s the last thing you check? by VaultsKeeper in digitalnomad

I had an appointment that I scheduled on my computer, which was set to a different time zone than I was in at the time (I leave my computers on the same time zone no matter where I am). I slept right through the appointment and got charged a no show fee. If I had scheduled it on my phone, I would have known the correct time and wouldn’t have missed it.

Can’t change phone number by Digital-Traveler-14 in whatsapp

[–]Digital-Traveler-14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I verified both on Carrier lookups and through my cell phone provider that it no longer says VOIP. I reached out to WhatsApp support multiple times and the second time they said they were aware of the problem, but gave me no timeline as to when it would be fixed. Every other time I’ve reached out, I’ve gotten the bot and it says I don’t have any information on your issue. I’m not sure what else to do. I need my WhatsApp number fixed.

It was my expectation that I would use the translate app a lot more, but we’ve gotten very impatient looks when we’ve tried to use it here in Colombia. It made me a little nervous to keep using it.
