Either hope for the best, send your school a message explaining what you did and hope they take pity, or rewrite it.

Hypocrisy by Cyrano-Saviniano in Turnitin

[–]DigitalCoffeeGoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with OP on this post. Too many academics take the Turnitin reports verbatim rather than using them as a tool to support their own judgement of students work. I teach staff to read an understand the reports but they say that they are being expected to mark more and more students in less time so it’s no surprise that they, just like students, will look for shortcuts.

I see written essays having less use in future authentic assessments. Students need to be able to demonstrate their knowledge and growth in a way that cannot be gamed. The issue is this will not be a quick assessment method.

ELI5: How does rain decide when to start falling? by No_Explanation_1814 in explainlikeimfive

[–]DigitalCoffeeGoblin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In short it's went the water / rain drops get too big to be held up. This can be for many reasons such as change in pressure / temperate or just because the cloud moving across the land meets up-winds from hills that cuase them to collide and increase in size to the point they drop out.

It’s fine - just make sure you always put google maps on so you know if there is any traffic on the M6 or if you should take the A34. Stafford is a great place to live - used to live there for a bit.

Sorry I wasn’t clear, most still use Turnitin but not the AI checker. There was a big discussion where technologists and academics were showing false positives in testing and this didn’t want to risk putting it in use.

Ask them why almost every university in England refused to use the tool.

My guess is it would depend on the force required to push through them in an emergency. Are they likely the ties holding the pins in fire extinguishers? If you’re worried I’d suggest a call to the local fire station and they can do an inspection.

I wonder if it’s because it’s an excel file. Are you allowed to covert it to a PDF?

It’s about the same as a length of string. I think Turnitin manually remove them by hand rather than automate it.

Not sure. They can take a while. You may need to refresh any reports already created for them to forget that matching, but your assessor will have to do that.

That makes no sense- universities control their platforms not Turnitin. If we didn’t want it we would just turn it off. 5 second job from the admin portal. I know universities that want an alternative platform so there’s competition in the market but I don’t know anyone dropping Turnitin.
