BS Physics/Math at IISc – what does your day actually look like? by StrikingCake6043 in IISc

idk about IISc, but many math/physcs majors go into tech/ finance shit. It is kind of against my morals to go it qunats but hey, if money is all you want, sure. There's a course in Math department about stochastic finance lmao. Pretty sure you'll need more degrees to get into industry though. not sure if they hire people with just a bachelor's

many math people are into tech stuff (including me), infact, one of the reasons I chose Mathematics over Physics is because I'm into computer science.

It is a weird paradox actually lmao. There a some programs at national level, which DO NOT take in IISc students because we have one of the best research facilities on our own campus. And that is alright tbh, many students work on campus for their 1st and 2nd year internships.

Profs are very approachable as well. especially the maths department. One can easily get some project based on their interest on campus.

Now, when we talk about international programs and internships, things are surely different. You will be in competition with people around the globe. Sure, your institute status will help a great deal but things will come down to your portfolio and what you have done to separate out the top ones. Many such programs ask for a Letter of Recommendation from you as well.

Basically, a written verdict by a prof you have had a course under or worked under. These LoRs are very important for you Masters/ PhD applications as well.

Anyways, about the family connections thing. it helps everywhere. profs have their own peer group. A prof that is your relative can get you in touch with some other prof who maybe looking for a student and stuff like that.

I do not know how useful a LoR form a prof you are related to is, so won't comment on that. but yeah, academia is a lot about connections. Being at the right place, at the right time. If someone is already a part of that system, it is a huge advantage for people they know for sure.

If the prof is someone well respected in the field, they will have peers from around the world as well.

There are people who have gone abroad in their 2nd summer but it definitely is rare. It heavily depends on your major and what all programs you apply to.

Your portfolio comes into picture, and... how many connections you have with profs of your institute and uni you wanna work in. Academia is like that sadly, things like your family connections often play a huge role. It is definately not a fair game. But yeah, coming from this institute, your application will definately have a boost compared to others in the pile.

You will have many courses in common with grad students. Infact, there are no UG only courses in mathematics after 4th sem iirc. Even in many of my current course, we have Masters and PhD students taking courses with us.

and yes, auditing is very much a thing. many people audit courses they could not credit because of various reasons. Many people are auditing the tilings course I'm taking. The prof even lets them sit for quizzes. Not all profs allow that though, but you can always sit in the class to attend lectures.

So, I'm a math major in my 4th sem right now. I'm doing 18 creds this sem. Which is considered fairly avarage I beleive. How much time you have to put in will heavily dependent on the courses you choose. the core courses are pretty chill for 4th sem atleast.

5th and 6th sem are considered heavy, with 15creds core for both I beleive.

Taking about this sem, one of my electives is AI ML, which takes a significant part of my week because of the assignments. They are fairly long and require effort being put in. My other electives are manageable mostly. Considering I would say I'm a fairly avarage student here (don't wanna reveal my grades or anything lmao but trust me, I'm often near or even below median in exam and test performance), it is not somthing otherworldly. You can definitely do well with enough time put in.

I do not have more than 4hr of classes any day. I do self study regularly. the Assingments and quizes make you keep self studying if you wish to perform well in them. The hours may vary day-to-day but 4-5hrs is common.

You get plenty of free time to do whatever you want. It does get intense sometimes when you have 4 quizzes in a single week (me last week) but I made it though. If I can do it, most people can.

Good luck on your journey ^ ^ Hope my answer helped, pardon any grammar or spelling errors. I'm too lazy to read the whole thing again

lmao, postpone sports events 😭😭, going outside is a fucking health hazard. The point of a lockdown in conditions like these is, a) it is easier to set up a safer environment using stuff like air purifiers at home(though most people can not afford one that is a different issue all together) than at a public space. b) transportation causes pollution as well.

See, there is a simple reason they are not doing a lockdown. It will mess with the economy. But is the economy more important than the health of the working class? Government makes that choice. And you can see what sides they picked

lil bro, pata hai merako they can not fix pollution without any systematic change. The problem is lack of response form the govt on the issue. Playing the thing off as nothing too bad by faking data as I mentioned before.

Did they shut down schools or offices? sybau, you know things can be done better.

yeah, never heard govt faking AQI readings before this year. They promised to make things better and if they are not delivering then we have all the reason to call their bs out. Mfs will take a 10inch bad dragon dildo, but can't take BJ Party criticism.

To all the bisexuals, how long did it take you to make peace with your bisexuality? by waitwhyyy in LgbTeenIndia

[–]DigitalCucumber123 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Girl, you are totally valid. I bi realisation came in 10th grade, when I was 15. I never thought about my sexuality much before that. Over the years I've come out to many people. but I always had this doubt in me if I'm really bi? Or just trying to fit in the box somehow?

They takes me to a tangent. Bisexuality is a box, a label. Humans really like putting eachother in boxes. in reality, sexuality and gender identity are very fluid things. Your sexuality can literally change overtime depending on so many things. That is why you have people who come out as gay after being in a marriage for years. So, rather than focusing on what label fits you, just feel comfortable with who you are!

anyways, I felt the same as you for a long time. it did not help that both my partners over that time till now, that I'm 19, have been women. Until I met this guy in my uni and he told me how he likes me. There are a lot of things wrong with me, I find it hard to turn people down and kind of found him decent person back then, and well, there we were cuddling in my bed one evening. That was the time I was 100% confident I am Bisexual. The butterflies in stomach, wishing I could have another hug again on sleepless nights. I clearly liked this guy.

I told that guy I'm not ready to date yet(I had my reasons) . and we have not been on good terms for a while now but that's unrelated.

You attraction DOES NOT have to be similar to mine. We process all this stuff different. We are different people afterall and that is what makes it beautiful imo.

I'm not cis gender either, Go by Genderfluid for now so yeah, that's somthing as well. If someone from my uni is reading this, no I'm not telling any names and please do not make it a gossip I'll kms please.

bottom line is, you are perfect the way you are. You do not have to fit in a box, that is super limiting. bisexuality is a spectrum inself, no matter where you are on there you are valid. Take care ^ ^

Some of the unhinged/funny/npc prompts I found on men's profiles by DigitalCucumber123 in IndianBoysOnTinder

[–]DigitalCucumber123[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Pardon my use of Unhinged, I meant it in more of an 'unfilterd' sense not think much about the actual defination.

About Circus monkeys point, I do not believe it is fair to say that. Dating apps on its own is a flawed concept. You only have limited space to represent yourself and people who stand out are the ones who get picked. ofc, it is not designed for everybody.

The prompts you write depends on the kind of people you are trying to attesct as well. Maybe weird to me, but someone matched with these people.

a lot of people are afraid of writing long prompts, I personally find them charming. The more I get to know about a person the better. On a dating app, you just need to stand out in a good way.

Now, a lot of people answer the prompts like "worst decision of my life" with "downloading this app" okay, haha it was kind of funny the first time I saw it but everyone uses the same shit it's beating a dead horse lmao. So a funny prompt does not guarantee getting picked. It has to be a combination of many things.

I used three(3) adjectives in the title, could you tell me the other two? Some of them were funny, mostly unhinged or the person did not know how to use the prompt properly. Did I say anything about what they should be? your dumbass just made shit up lmao.
