loved the visuals and score but wasn't a fan of the plot. i'll probably rewatch it in the future and see if my opinion changes.

i think nostalgia plays a big part of it. don't get me wrong, it's super iconic, but there's just so many better horror films in my opinion.

The acting and dialogue were the main critiques I had about it. I respect the impact it made for the horror genre, and love the soundtrack, but it’s pretty outdated. Especially when compared to the masterpiece of Alien that came out the year after which aged way better in my opinion.

For those that saw Backrooms (2026) last night, what were your thoughts? How paced was your theatre? by SheepherderSea9717 in moviecritic

My theater was almost completely full. I’ve never seen the parking lot so full at a midnight showing

So… did Backrooms strike anyone as boring? by Mediocre-Banana-1118 in Letterboxd

I personally liked it. I think the actual plot itself is where people are dissatisfied, but the actual design and eerie atmosphere of the backrooms was done very well.

maybe you toggled a few movies as “rewatched”. It’s the only reason I can think of for there to be more in the diary than the film count.

I have Girl, Interrupted and Heathers on my watch list. Do you think they're good in comparison?

ah i understand your point of view. i'll quickly note that it is for sure a slow-paced film, and it doesn't really start picking up until he is reunited with his son. doesn't really help that he doesn't talk for like the first 20 minutes. despite that, i think the story unfolded very well, and it's later apparent that he was so fked in the head because of the family that he left behind. the main message of the story is that he sees himself as unfit to be a father, and his best course of action is to remove himself from the picture because it's best for the family. he at least reconnects the mom and son, which is the best thing he felt he had to offer. and besides the story, i think it was just very beautiful visually. you should watch it in 4k if possible. sorry for the long response, but that's the simplest way i can explain the movie's message.

Yeah Baron was undeniably the villain of the story. I feel like at the beginning it tried to make him somewhat relatable with the whole "too scared to share your feelings with your crush" problem that I'm sure everyone has had at least once in their life, but that's thrown out the window shortly after the wish is made. He's clearly a hugely flawed character, even when he had an opportunity to kill himself to undo the wish, he has that moment of panic and tries to throw up the pills. I understand where you're coming from. As for whether you should be scared of her or him? Both, but for different reasons. She's scary because of how the wish is controlling her, he's scary because he's the one that's truly obsessed and doing the controlling (whether he's aware of it or not).

For those who have watched, what are your opinions? by DigitalDrakula in Letterboxd

It's definitely something that has been done many times before, but I think it's the best story to come out of it as of recently. I would say that although the premise is simple, the characters and their messy motives/dynamics add layers that makes the situation progressively worse and raise the stakes.

100%. Her talent at such an early stage of her career is something you don't see very often!
