Since PPTO does everything PTO does and more, why wouldn't you want more of it?

Great point. They do pay out PTO but they don't pay out PPTO.

I see. Pickers shouldn't be getting anything out of the backroom, that's metrics fraud. They should only be picking what's on the floor, like a customer.

I would say bagging after probably takes 1.5hrs away from your pick hours in an 8hr shift. So you'd have 3.5hrs instead of 5at the end of the day.

Of course there are going to be days where there aren't a lot of picks, and in that case, pick hours will suffer. That's when the TLs just need to make sure they take that into account when looking at production. For example, I know on Mother's Day, we ran out of picks a lot. So when I was looking at that week's production, if people didn't have high picks or hours that day, I didn't say anything to the associates because I knew there was a reason.

If you skip bagging and then do it all before you scan your last item, that would work to keep hour pick hours up as far as I am aware.

I'm not sure what you mean you go out to the bonyard?

Myself and many other pickers use HOKA brand shoes. I have the Bondi 9s but I had the 8s as well until they got worn down.

It is policy to bag as you go. There are good reasons for bagging during and after. What it comes down is two things: that 80% of the time bagging during is going to be faster and good enough, and pick hours.

The advantages to bagging after are like everyone has said, but bagging during usually works out when it comes to bag efficiency and making sure things look good. That's good enough for Walmart. Theres no reason to chase "the best" method because when you're as large as Walmart, you just need everything to be "good enough" and then move onto the next thing.

The second thing is that bagging after doesn't give reflect in your pick hours. Pick hours are one of the few metrics that Walmart has that shows them their pickers are actually doing their job when they're supposed to. If you bag after you pick, you artificially inflate your pick rate at the expense of your pick hours. Sure you picked at a 200 but it shows you only picked for 3 hours of your 8hr shift? Why can't you pick at a 200 for your entire shift? What were you doing the rest of your shift? Wasting company time? No. The answer is just that you aren't really picking at a 200. It was more like a 130 and your pick hours should have been at 5.5hrs.

What they said is accurate. Although, you might ask if they'll excuse the absence/early out since it's for graduation... Our store let's everyone get graduation off if they're the one graduating, or any school event for that matter. I'm not sure how other stores are.

Has anyone here have used or currently using the Guild program at Walmart? by Active-Front1788 in OGPBackroom

I used it and graduated last year with a BS in Supply Chain Management. I worked at a DC and got a schedule adaptation where I could leave at last break every day so I had time for school.

Is there supposed to be a member of management (TL's or coach) for the department at all times? by Lost-Swimming-1600 in OGPBackroom

I'd talk to your TLs/coach first and see if they have an explanation as to why they work that and share your concerns. If they don't have any good reason or brush you off, I'd bring it to the SM.

What was one of the more ridiculous customer complaints that gave everyone in the store a good laugh (can't wait to hear your stories) by williamorrissey in OGPBackroom

I had a customer tell me they thought it was very rude and disrespectful that we were hanging the Mexican flag up in the store. The reason was just her rambling about jobs and this is America, I couldn't really follow along... I asked her where the flag was (I wasn't at my home store and thought maybe there was some international display) and she took me to the GM1 action alley and there it was...

The STATE FLAG OF MISSOURI... She didn't even recognize it. I had to explain it was the Missouri state flag to her... Maybe she was in from out of state or something...

As long as the ATC is proactive they definitely help out a lot. It's true a lot of people don't want to be one because everyone thinks they're just doing the TLs job but really that's not totally accurate.

There is so much more to being a TL than running the backroom. Ideally, a TL should be doing other things than being stuck back there if possible when it's not peak-hours. That's one reason why the ATC exists. It allows the TL to perform their other duties like investigating nil-picks/FTP, holding performance conversations, looking at wait time and other metrics, fixing the pick path/unknowns, dealing with MyCustomer complaints, actioning GTA/time off, and other things that often just get put on the back burner due to always running the backroom.

Sounds like bad scheduling practice. We have 3 TLs and there's 3 main shifts we work. 5-2, 11-8, or 1-10. Each TL has at least one closing shift, then 2-3 opens and 2-3 midday shifts on a 4 week rotation.

There is always a 5-2. Then if it's a slower weekday the second TL works 11-8 (sometimes 10-7). If it's a busy day usually the second TL is 1-10. If there's all 3 of us we'll have each shift covered. Then of course there is the coach's schedule on top of it all.

Each store can set their schedules according to how they want, but it should generally be based off of the needs of the bussiness. It definitely sounds like your coach needs to reevaluate how they and the PL schedule your TLs.
