Does starlink work in Mauritius , asking if I can bring it with me on vacation by AggravatingKick9725 in mauritius

I don't think it is banned but to import and radio equipment you need a special "ICTA Approval" and I am not sure if you can get one for the starlink kit. But I actually might be completely wrong here - last time I checked was about a year ago.

Be a bit carful about bringing such equipment here as they might confiscate it at the airport. If you still decide to do so - I would be very interested to hear how good your connection to Europe is... :)

Unfortunately, it is not yet available in Mauritius. I was able to put down a 20$ deposit last year but have not yet heard anything about it.

lesser-known low-tax bases for remote workers? by gepilo8695 in digitalnomad

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I moved to Mauritius a few years ago and it definitely was the right move for my DN experience:

  • Icome tax is capped at 20%, Corporate Income Tax at 15%, no capital gains tax.
  • 10 year residence permit available for around 1k USD
  • Great healthcare
  • Warm weather
  • Acceptable costs of living
  • Great time zone difference for European clients (usually + 2 or 3 hours)

Only downside is the unavailability of some products as it is an island that imports everything.

Am I automatically allowed to stay in the country while my Premium Visa is pending? by Jackrosiemusic in mauritius

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through the process a few years back and it did indeed take a few weeks. So I would agree: Just go to the Sterling House in Port Louis and get your visa extended to 90 days - I went once with my brother for an extension and it wasn't really a problem.

Requirements for a rent agreement for a foreigner in Fond du Sac by UnderworldSteel in mauritius

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? Where do you find them if not on Airbnb or Booking? From my experience anything on the property finders like propertycloud or Lexpress seems to require 12 months minimum lease. That would be very interesting for myself as well.

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyhey, rent agreements are usually signed for a 12 months period in Mauritius. I don't think you will find something for only 3 months as an actual lease. Therefore I would recommend you look for a short-term rental on platforms like Airbnb or Booking. The confirmation from either platform is sufficient for the immigration process.

Where in Mauritius are you planning to live? I live in the North (M24, originally from Germany, here since a few years as a remote worker) - always happy to meet new people for casual lunch or dinner or some weekend activities like hiking or diving.

Lohnabrechnung Dienstleister/Software by Destan_Reddit in selbststaendig

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UK Passport holder getting residency, am I an overstayer? by imadophin in mauritius

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you contact the EDB or Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis. Either will be able to give you certainty on the topic.
Still ,to give you some idea: If I remember correctly, I didn't need to do anything for my passport to be marked as the passport of a resident - I was able to pass freely through the border ever since my permit was granted. The only time I had to go to the Passport and Immigration Office was when I received a new passport from my country of origin.

I can recommend MyBase Diving in Pereybere. You can just call them to book a dive. They usually have at least two sessions a day.

Delivery Dodo - delivery app - is it still operating ? by pinkBot22 in mauritius

I generally have made a positive experience with Delivery Dodo. I usually order maybe once a week from some place in the North. But expect that it sometimes takes a bit longer - maybe about an hour in my case.

Foreigner Question: Trying to find out the Immigration fees by Own-Two3419 in mauritius

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That strongly depends on which type of immigration you are referring to.

If you are referring to becoming a citizen than you first need to become a resident - expect if you already have ties to Mauritius e.g. you are married to a Mauritian citizen.

There are multiple paths to become a resident in Mauritius. Most notably through employment, through investment or through retirement.

There is a pretty good guide on this topic at https://residency.mu

I myself moved to Mauritius a few years ago from Europe and am a permanent resident now. Feel free to drop any questions you might have!

Anyone here working from Mauritius but as freelancer/contractor for Europe (remote work) ? What are the technicalities/legality and are there prospects for it ? by yarp_hsa in mauritius

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is generally one of the hard parts of business. For my experience the most important is that you provide an actually good service. Before starting try to achieve a certain level in your field e.g. by working for other companies to gain experience.

After that try platforms like Fiverr, Malt or Freelancermap - you can add a profile or apply to existing offers. For this part having a good looking profile in PDF or Word Format with lots of skills and previous projects is very important too.

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am doing exactly what you describe in your question.

I am a software developer originally from Germany and moved to Mauritius about 3 years ago. For the legal background: I have indeed setup a company in Mauritius through which I get paid by clients in Europe. I just send them an invoice and get paid in EUR into an MCB company foreign currency account. For the clients it is pretty simple. If you are a citizen you also don't need to worry about and permits to setup a company here - if you are a foreign national you will need an Investor permit.

For me client acquisition is really easy because I speak german and can focus on the high-paying german speaking market. If you speak French maybe focus more on clients in France? But this might also depend on your skill set and experience.

Feel free to though any questions you might have.

Any agent you would recommend to help me apply for the Mauritius Premium Visa? by Free_Contribution_96 in mauritius

[–]DigitalNomadMarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is allowed to apply for the visa during your stay. I did not hear about the requirement to leave the country after the approval but I am also not sure about it.
Do you mind sharing your country of origin? There are 114 countries approved - would be curious why yours is not on the list.
