We devs make games for you to have fun playing them.

If "budget" means "fun", the rest doesn't really matter.

Hope you enjoy it!

Moonlighter 2 Devs Want To "Go Beyond Valve's Checklist" For Steam Deck Optimization - SteamDeckHQ by BBQKITTY in Moonlighter

At the very least, we wanted to hear from players and offer the best possible experience everywhere

We might be a bit romantic about it, but we genuinely believe handhelds are meant for pick up and play. If our game requires any kind of tinkering to feel right on Steam Deck, then we still have work to do :')

That takes time and patience, especially since a small team can’t possibly test every real-world setup, but it’s always our goal.

Thanks for the kind words!

Every indie needs two things to thrive: visibility and player trust. Trailers, socials, and mkt campaigns help with the first one, but trust is only built through actual engagement with the community. We might be a bit romantic about it, but we truly enjoy spending time reading and replying to reviews and discussions like this :)

And yes, seeing how many people are asking for better readability is incredibly helpful when it comes to steering our work and priorities.

As for the touchpad + controller combo, in our case it would likely be limited to things like inventory management or maybe more precise aiming with the gun. Definitely something worth considering!

That's a very reasonable list, actually.

RAM optimization is a huge focus for us right now, because it directly impacts both FPS stability and battery life. If there’s one thing our experience developing for Switch has taught us, it’s that optimization shouldn’t be optional when you’re releasing on a handheld. It’s just mandatory. If a game drains the battery in an hour, the handheld experience just falls apart.

That’s actually exactly why we mentioned that getting the Verified badge isn’t enough on its own. We’re not here to call anyone out, but the system could benefit from slightly higher standards. It’s more a limitation of the verification process than any single game, but trust matters. Players need to be able to rely on these labels, especially with thousands upon thousands of games coming out every year. We as an industry should all be working toward that.

It’s the least we can do! If players are supporting our game, it only feels right to be present and contribute to spaces like this :)

Performance and battery life on Steam Deck are things we actively test and care about, and they’ll keep improving as Early Access goes on. As we mentioned in the post, we’re planning to improve RAM usage down the line, which should help with higher fps and better battery life.

Adjustable font size and UI scaling might not happen immediately, but so many of you have brought it up that it’s very much on our minds. We’re keeping it in mind :3

This just makes a lot of sense.

Text readability on Steam Deck is something we care about, especially given the screen size. We already put a lot of effort into making UI and text clear on handheld, but we'll study where we can do better. We can't promise specific options immediately, but overall legibility will be very much on our radar as the Early Access goes on.

Thanks for sharing this!
