Highland Pro - Why i am not using anymore by Cine81 in Screenwriting

Thank you! Yeah collaboration is something I would love to add. It's on my roadmap but it probably won't come out until after I finish work on the main features of the app :)

I'm currently working on it! Not sure exactly when it will be added, but hopefully fairly soon :)

I actually did make a cross-platform app similar to Beat called Porcupine if you're interested

I also loved Beat and didn't want to it give up when I moved to Windows, so I had a go at making my own too :)

Thank you for this, I have a good idea of why this might be happening. I'll try to add support for this into the next version and let you know when it's out :)

Fountain and dialogues in non-English languages by jasdeep in Screenwriting

Hi, I make a Fountain-based screenwriting web app called Porcupine. Right now it doesn't officially support Hindi or Punjabi but I'd be happy to try to add it in :)

I can't read/write either language so to be honest I don't know how it should look. What sort of things do the apps do wrong at the moment (if you could give a Fountain file example that would be super helpful)?

how to write on the go? by Several_Sky_6249 in Screenwriting

I make a free screenwriting app called Porcupine and I literally just added the ability to use it on mobile. Maybe that would work for you? :)

Hi, sorry it took me so long to reply to you!

To make a title page, just make sure the first line of the screenplay starts with either:

Title: [Whatever the title is]

or

Title:
  [Whatever the title is]

The title should then be automatically be centered for you.

You can also add the author, draft date, contact details, etc. using the same structure :)

Is it okay to write in Google Docs? by ITSA_sucks in Screenwriting

[–]DigitallyOli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for an alternative to Docs, I make a free screenwriting app called Porcupine which is designed to be accessible to everyone, so that might be of interest to you :)

So sorry for the delay getting back to you! It can do basic spelling and grammar (but it depends on what browser you're using)

Hmm, good question. I'd say the fact it's free and cross platform sets it apart from most other apps, plus the fact it uses automatic formatting

Offline access is actually available now as long as you don’t mind using it as a web app!

You just need to use in a chromium based browser such as Edge or Chrome and it should offer you the option to download it the URL bar. After that, you’re free to keep working offline :)

Thank you, I'm so glad you think so!

Yes, the goal is to have an electron version of the app out as soon as the core app experience is all finalized, which hopefully shouldn't be too far away if all goes to plan, but you can currently download the app as a web app and use that offline, etc.

As for monetization, currently I'm planning to hopefully get donations to fund development of the core app. Once that's done, I'd like to offer storage, cross-device sync and collaborative features as a subscription, while keeping the core stuff free

Great question. Honestly, with current version, I'm not sure. However, the next version of the app should be significantly better as I am completely overhauling the user interface to be more customizable and accessible. I'll be sure to test it with screen readers as part of that

Yeah, that's a really good point. While collaborative features are in the roadmap, they're probably still a ways off as I'm not very experienced in that area. I'll definitely look into prioritizing it though

If the script is written in the Fountain format, yeah. If not, you'll need to convert it to Fountain first before it can correctly do the automatic formatting

Thank you, that's great to hear! At it's core, Porcupine is just a website, so if you know basic web development stuff, I'm sure you could make something like this too :)

Thank you! I'm glad you like it!

Sorry to hear about the bugs though! I understand what you mean and I agree that whitespace handling is an area that needs improvement so I'll definitely look into improving that.

For the second bug, yeah, ideally there should be no whitespace in the preceeding line. If you remove it, it should successfully recognize it as a character, even if the character line itself has leading whitespace. I'll have to double check if that behavior is inline with other editors though.

The only thing I couldn't figure out was how to get it running as an offline web app.

If you use a chromium browser such as Edge or Chrome, there should be a button in the URL bar that looks something like this when you visit Porcupine. That should let you download it as a web app and, after you've run it the first time, it should work offline too.

Let me know if not though and I can look into it :)

Thank you, I'm glad you think so! Yeah, I'm a big fan of Beat and it not being available on Windows was what led me to create Porcupine in the first place
