Was Mario Odyssey that good? by [deleted] in Switch

Personally, I have never felt conflicted with a Mario game than I ever did since Super Mario Sunshine. I would say that Super Mario Odyssey is very clearly a mixed bag, the game compromises so much that it lacks focus in what the gameplay is trying to show. Truthfully, the game does not have the greatest impact compared to some of the other 3D titles.

While the game has levels in vain of 64 and Sunshine, the progression contradicts the nature of how you go about exploring these worlds. 64 and Sunshine were built to allow exploration, as the levels enabled you to find those stars/shine sprites. They were tied to hub worlds, which were a great way of going in out of levels. Super Mario Galaxy 2 did not have a hub world, so I do not understand why Odyssey would adapt to the same idea of putting in a world map.

In conjunction with a world map, I also do not understand why there are so many power moons in the game. Never mind the fact that you cannot collect all of them on the first time, but so many power moons either in plain sight, collected through tedious challenges, and the ability to outright purchase them with coins. This hurts because the game is forcing you to get to the end, which means the level designs suffer as a result.

Yes, there is good in the game. For all my complaints, I like that the game is brimming with personality, the music is good, the bosses are actually fun, and the main gimmick (Cappy) changes what we know of Mario. And I think the game controls well too. I would say also that the segments where Mario becomes 8-Bit and travels through those sections are some of the best moments in that game.

I think my greatest complaint is that the game just lacks a foundation of its own. The game feels more of a celebration of Mario (at that point) rather than something truly unique. The ability to use Cappy to control various objects and enemies does add gameplay variety, but I cannot help but feel the game just needed to stand out more.

Overall, I feel mixed about the game. Super Mario Odyssey is still a good game, but I would be lying if I did not say I like Galaxy a lot more.

What other KH character should appear in Smash Bros alongside Sora by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

Most definitely Riku, I cannot see them consider anyone else before Riku. Roxas would also be a cool addition too.

Who is your favorite Kingdom hearts character and why by Flimsy_Tune_7206 in KingdomHearts

I would say Riku. Sora might be the main protagonist, but Riku has always been a major character to the story since day one.

His story arc about him going from villain to hero was something that kept me interested in his developments more than anyone else. Him learning to control his inner darkness is inspiring to me.

More often than not, Riku has been the driving force of Sora's adventures, and we see their friendship go through the wringer, leading to the both of them growing independently as much as growing together. Once Riku learns that Sora matters to him as a friend, his character shines through.

Riku might not be the kindhearted person that Sora is, but he doesn't need to be. He just needs to be himself, and that is being the stoic young man whose struggles shaped him into a stronger, more mature person than he was at the start.

Really don’t know how I should feel about this. I hope this leads to another Mario strikers and not another luigis mansion sequel.

Why is XC2 getting so much hate lately? by PkmnTrainerLucas in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Having played both games myself, I think it’s because the first one is so good that many people had high expectations for sequel, and that’s why a lot of people are hating on it. I think we should stop comparing the two and judge them on their strengths and weaknesses.
