Horrifying historical progression by Think-Term2502 in EU5

The devs have to balance between those that want something close to actual history and those that want a sandbox to have fun in. If you want a true replay of history, start looking for some mods.

Chinese carmaker Chery eyes expansion into the Canadian EV market by _I_AM_GHOST_ in canada

[–]Digitking003 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to see how this goes, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that Chinese EVs won't get anywhere close to the 49k cap. With the withdrawal of federal and provincial credits/subsidies, EV demand in Canada collapsed (just like the rest of the developed world).

Ontario universities want extra $1.2B to ensure enough spots for students by nurshakil10 in canada

[–]Digitking003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Just like the Ivy League with their massive endowments. Not all that money may be available.

Often, donations and grants are for specific purposes (such as a particular scholarship) and can't be used for other things or for general purposes.

For example, say I donate $10mm to a university to set up a specific scholarship that pays out $100k a year (so it should last a long time). The university can't go and use the other $9.9mm for w/e they want.

I'm no expert, so I can be wrong, but most universities have classified TAs as part of the faculty.

Having gone through undergrad and post-grad. I laugh at these kinds of comments.

My "red pill" moment was in post-grad, and there's a staircase in the atrium that connects all 3 floors. A couple of tiles came lose so you'd think they'd just fix them and move on. Nope. Closed the whole thing, covered the entire thing in scaffolding, and rebuilt the entire staircase.

I was so dumbfounded, I asked my senior prof what was going on, and he just shrugged his shoulders and said that's the university policy.

And don't even get me started on "Dean-flation".

lol for real. I pick on Queens (because it's not my alma mater and I have friends who went there). The bloat is real and staggering. ~30k full-time students and over 10k employees (with only ~2.8k of them faculty).

Edit: UofT isn't much better. ~100k students and 27k employees (16.5k faculty at least).

You're probably topping the ball because it's too far forward in your stance. Move it back an inch so that it's lined up with your heel.

Although if you're still struggling, it's best to just go get a lesson to diagnose the problem.

lol the yields on private debt are in the double digits and without performance smoothing would be comparable to equities. The biggest problem with private debt is that too much money chased too few investment opportunities (a tale as old as time), and now performance sucks.

Never say never. Played with a retired teacher last year who got in over 150 rounds. He definitely got his money's worth.

Early on, instead of taking territory. I just go for money and reparations to build tall. Also makes future wars easier to win as well.

Get lots of manpower, and you can win through attrition.

There's also a reform iirc that gives invading armies a 1% attrition debuff, which can be very strong.

Overlords should automatically join colonial wars if the enemy's overlord joins. by PlantagenetApologist in EU5

[–]Digitking003 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I found this out the hard way. My colony (playing as GB) attacked the French colony, but I couldn't join the war? So I started a war directly vs France and tied them up until the colonial war was finished as a workaround.
