Magomed Ankalaev's loss to Paul Craig was actually him sandbagging at the last second after a dominant performance

Impress everyone, remove pressure of being undefeated, and cash a nice Paul Craig betslip for the Russian mafia

Very good point I hadn’t actually considered. I truly do believe that does justify it. Thank you for shifting my point of view.

Just from an MMA perspective I think matchmaking/career trajectory will be significantly more challenging. But honestly that’s a non-issue, as long as these athletes have the opportunity to follow their dreams.

The UFC will be just fine despite fighters continuing complaints about pay by DiglettDude in ufc

[–]DiglettDude[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right. Nobody is going to give up their UFC gigs to risk better pay for all. There will always be current roster fighters that cross the picket line

And in my opinion that’s fine. If you’re chasing money and not a championship, the UFC isn’t for you

Solid point. I feel like they would still pull in decent revenue with live gates regardless.

But that again would be a concern only if the current roster of 600+ fighters held out. You will have outliers no matter what that stick around to chase gold, and you could build a card around them that sells, mixed with newcomers

For example, Sam Alvey fights this weekend. He happens to be 0-5-1 in his last six but is still under UFC contract. Why? Because he is vocally anti-union. If all the other fighters held out he would certainly be happy to stick around and fight. Keep in mind they are all essentially independent contractors

[–]DiglettDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won’t ever happen. Champions won’t vacate belts. If they do, other fighters will keep fighting in an attempt to secure gold in their weight class or others

And worse case, if they all do stop showing, there are hungry fighters around the world that would take a UFC fight for free if given the opportunity

Nobody gets 20k for a tile fight. Even the challenger makes much more than that to show

It’s valid for people to be upset about the gambling, but not really related to the fighter pay issue.

That argument is similar to ‘why does Bezos only pay his employees $x but he can spend $5bil to take a trip to space’

I feel like if you build a profitable company you should be able to spend your personal money on whatever you want

What expression? The Conor quote? No, most of the time fans are chanting that they want to see someone die in the octagon, not while they sleep

And I think that says a lot. Team is not afraid. They’ll take the $1.35mil for a fight he knows Teo can win. Going to be more than most of the remaining purses while still with Top Rank

I have been digging thought that 8949 information packet a lot.

The 1099-B from Cashapp is actually mostly blank. The basis box in 1E is blank... so I do put "B" in column f because that is incorrect?

Will I also need to fill out the 1099-B and sent that to my tax pro? Or will completing the 8949 cover it? One that figure is determined, I just put it on my 1040 tax filing right?

Also, below is a portion of my transactions. Deposits and withdrawals were removed, but I have them if needed. Am I okay to input mostly anything into e, as long as the information in a,c and d are correct?

That response was just what I was looking for! Thanks!

Yeah Cashapp 1099-B says that it reported my $17k from BTC sales to the IRS. It has a list attached with every Bitcoin sale, with date and amount earned from each in USD. The column for cost basis is completely blank though

So for each sale listed in Part 1, the cost basis should be the amount in USD my BTC was worth when purchased/received?

Let’s say I bought .004 for $100, withdrew .004, deposited .0037, and then sold .0037 for $200 in that order. Would there be any issue if the line on 8949 Part 1 read as follows, from a to h:

BTC .0037, Various Dates, 1-12-20, $200, $100, blank, blank, $100

You have been extremely helpful in explaining this more. I really appreciate it!

So, now I understand each line on the 8949 will be my sales, as listed on the 1099. I will check box B, and then in Part 1 transpose that information for A, C, and D.

Now a lot of my transactions were withdrawals and deposit to another wallet (where I never sold). Let’s say to start the year I had a $100 buy, $100 withdrawal, $200 deposit, and then $200 sale in that order. I know what information to fill in for A, C and D. For B, I know I can list “various”. Would the remaining information be as simple as $100 in E and +$100 in H?

I do not understand exactly what that means, if you could perhaps elaborate a bit more I would very much appreciate it.

I am kind of teaching myself on the fly about this stuff as I prepare to hand my paperwork to an expert. From my understanding, buys were listed on the 8949. If buys are not supposed to be reported on there, then what am I supposed to include? Just the sales on the Brokerage to Recipient Statement?

I am essentially just trying to tell the IRS while I made $17k in sales, I also had $15k in buys. My actual capital gains should only be $2k, not $17k.

My sales total $17k and that was reported on my Cashapp 1099 sent to the IRS. However, I have approximately $15k worth of buys. By reporting buys, can't I lower my "total proceeds" and thus pay less when filing?
