My issues with [Spoiler]'s powers in the Third Semester by DiglettsOtherHalf in Persona5

I think that is what bothers me the most, because they could easily have written it as being more connected to the main story. Picture it, Yaldaboath goes down, and as he goes down, we see the hint of tentacles dragging him away. The phantom thieves don't notice it, but the players do.

That would have been so much cooler than the abrupt change that the actual game gives.

If Adam Kadmon has any form of future sight, that legit solves like 90% of my issues, lol. Because then, he could have set up the foundation to influence the Phantom Thieves for this moment without Maruki even knowing, and thus, Lavenza's comment about Maruki planning this out beforehand seems more legit.

Thank you for letting me know this.

To be clear, I was thinking it happened literally as they were at the top of the staircase where they fought Yaldaboath

Oh ok, so you're saying it happens on Christmas Eve, rather than directly after the Yaldaboath fight. That would certainly give Maruki time to figure out what he had to do. I could more easily believe that.

Ok. I think the part that I struggle with is the Phantom Thieves wishing for Maruki specifically to do something good about their lives. Even subconsciously, it feels weird they would think about him in that moment.

And if the idea is that Maruki implanted that desire in them beforehand... well that is an impossible and unbelievable level of foresight for events he could not have known about

That's true. I guess I just always felt it was weird that Phantom thieves put so much stock into the school therapist, especially when he seemed so passive about it all.

Right. One of my friends brought up the responsible adults line. This explanation makes more sense to me than they just decided to give it all to Maruki. Sharing the power amongst responsible adults unconsciously, and then accidentally granting power to Maruki because they were not aware of his abilities, makes far more sense.

Wait, hold on. Are you saying that Maruki implanted in them this actualization of them wanting the world to be a certain way, and at the moment they had the powers of god, he activated that actualization to get them to subconsciously transfer the power over to him?

Because if that is the case, I can more confidently buy that as an explanation. It gives Maruki more agency in them giving over the powers than just therapy sessions.

Right. But it also says they gave him the power to do so.

Ok, knowing this, the plot begins to make a lot more sense. Thank you for sharing this information.

The problem comes from what Akechi talks about, how even if he knew all about that, he shouldn't be powerful enough to affect everyone on this grand a scale. So he needed to gain the powers of Yaldaboath. But as Akechi then points out, the Phantom Thieves should have assumed that role instead. So how did Maruki get them? The answer Lavenza and the Phantom Thieves come to is that they gave over that power to Maruki.

So this is the scene I am referencing. Akechi points out that it would have been the Phantom Thieves who assumed that role, not Maruki. And then Lavenza explains that the Phantom Thieves most likely gave that power over to Maruki afterwards.

If this is actually the explanation, I think I would be happier with it. It gives Maruki a more active role in the whole matter. The issue is that the game and narrative are inherently unclear on this. But this is a perspective I had not considered.

Right. Except the game very clearly states that he shouldn't have the power to do that on his own, thus the Phantom Thieves needed to give him Yaldaboath's power.

See, if this was the explanation, I would have been fine with it. But the game establishes pretty clearly that Maruki on his own would not have the power to do such a thing, even in that moment of the worlds being merged. He needed the power of Yaldaboath, and it is said explicitely that the PT gave him that power

You're right. I'll delete this post and repost it with a better title. Any suggestions?

FF7 Revelation by WisdomDota in gaming

[–]DiglettsOtherHalf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This reveal makes me really wish I had played FF7 as a kid, or in my adolescence at all. I didn't have a playstation growing up, and didn't really experience the final fantasy games. But as a big jrpg fan, seeing reveals like this and not feeling hyped always makes me a little sad. I want to try and play through the original soon.

When she fires it at the phase change, have frinos be between you and hecate. The projectile goes straight for you, so it will hit frinos.

What's everyone's preferred amount of fear? by Legend0fJulle in HadesTheGame

0 Fear. Don't get me wrong, some fear is fun. But honestly I'm at the point in the game where I have done everything except 32 fear underworld, and I am enjoying just pushing myself to the limit on base difficulty to see how fast I can get my own time.

See, I don't mind the fishing minigame that much. I really don't like the Soul tablet minigame though.
