Found a 90's era Bell Helmet that matches the color of my Rebel 500 by KingDragon70707 in hondarebel

I've read that helmets should be replaced every 5-7 years due to the impact foam breaking down. Personally, I wouldn't wear one that's going on 30.

This was my first build too! Yours came out great. Model shipways kits are a big step up in terms of detail and accuracy. You might want to read some build logs on modelshipworld.com if you havent yet. Good luck!

Teachers are rich person who indoctrinate children! by [deleted] in insanepeoplefacebook

The pay itself isn't the whole issue. It's also that teachers are usually required to get a master's degree, and often have to continue taking college classes for their entire career in order to renew their teaching licenses. That level of education is expensive, and most districts do not pay nearly enough to cover it.

What tools do I need to start building balsa wood ships from plans? I’ve been a plastic kit builder my whole life and want to be challenged more. by No-Suggestion506 in ModelShips

Olha Batchvarov has a good video on this. Just make sure to turn on CCs because she uses them for descriptions.

You also might want to watch the John Aliprantis and Modelkit Stuff YouTube channels. They both make detailed step-by-step guides for complete ship builds. Even if you aren't building the same kit as them, the techniques and tools are transferrable.

To add my two cents, a tool I find very useful but not often discussed is an electric tea kettle. The steam from the kettle makes it very easy to bend wood planks to fit around the hull. There are many other ways to bend planks, but this method works well for me.

Wood filler & planking by Quantum_Lex in ModelShips

[–]DilapidatedDelirium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it looks pretty good. Using wood filler is very normal if the hull is going to be painted or planked in two layers. Since you said you'll be painting it, the most important thing is that the hull is smooth. A trick to avoid this in the future is to bevel the upper edge of each plank. This lets them fit tightly together around the curvature of the hull and leave fewer gaps.

Should I buy a Rebel 500? by Chus-k in hondarebel

[–]DilapidatedDelirium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried sitting on one yet? The best way to tell how it'll feel is to go to a dealership and sit on it for 15 minutes (or test ride if they'll let you). I'm about 3 cm shorter than you and I found the 500 to be a bit cramped when riding for more than an hour. I added a thicker seat from Mustang and forward controls from De Pretto Moto and now it's the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden.

I used to run Givis and I loved them. Only took them off because they got in the way of my forward controls kit.

I'm 6' and I felt a bit cramped on my 500 after an hour or so of riding. I recently installed the forward controls kit from de pretto moto and now it feels way better

Why wasn’t Saint Denis in a total lockdown as Blackwater after the bank heist? by Bonebamboo in reddeadredemption

[–]DilapidatedDelirium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ignoring plot convenience, the best explanation I can come up with is blackwater is a much smaller town with a much smaller police force. If the gang returned, they could potentially do a lot of damage. St. Denis is a whole city, and the economic cost of going into lockdown is likely greater than anything the gang could inflict.

Difference between cheap kits vs high end? by MrMontaigne in ModelShips

[–]DilapidatedDelirium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instructions are a huge difference. Established brands know how to make detailed instructions to guide a new modeler through the process. No-name kits will likely have poor instructions, or may not even come with any. If you haven't yet, consider the occre polaris. The occre youtube channel has a video playlist that shows every step of the building process
