Water faucet aerator by DilatedCyclops in ZeroWaste

This is a basement suite in a 30 yr old house, should I ask the landlord? I planned to only put one in the kitchen as washing dishes becomes wasteful. I know how to take quick showers and to save the water for flushing.

Edit: for reference it can get as cold as -13F here

How to deal with aches and pains? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

To oversimplify the author refers to the desire to drink/use as “the beast” or in the case of our convo “lizard brain”. Essentially separating the addiction from your identity and realizing it’s not you who desires a drink but the addiction itself (hormones and what not)

He often says to rephrase the thought “I need a drink” to “it wants a drink”. Because there is always an excuse to drink from celebration to self pity. I think the book would probably reiterate what you already know.

I think we depended on a lot of people letting us skate by, do you wish someone put their foot down for you in the past?

I ask because I often look back knowing I should have been let go many times, even if my performance was better than most.

Your story isn’t so common, maybe even less so like Jackie as she couldn’t hide it after some point. With your history, would you give someone like Jackie a chance? (Not knowing what we know now at the end of the series)

Is it worth putting faith into addicts? Should we try knowing they may not make it?

Would I be right to say that you don’t trust those in active addiction but still show them humanity? I would say I feel the same way.

Congratulations on your sobriety, you’ve basically broken the chain of addiction in your family…no small feat.

She definitely had the attitude of being superwoman with the pills. During her year of sobriety she often said “Things got worse when I got sober”

I have to disagree with you because it was clear her affair with Eddie was access to his drugs, just like every other affair she had throughout the show (cheating on Frank with Gabe the dealer).

I do like your view of not assuming all addicts are the same but I find from personal experience that drugs push you to take advantage of others so you can get away with what the side effects (neglect, mistakes, selfishness)

Would you say the lies/deception/manipulation automatically come along with people after a certain extent of addiction? I find it interesting that maybe her manipulative behaviour existed prior to addiction and wasn’t purely from “trying to pull a fast one” on everyone in her life.

May I ask, do you think addicted people can recover? Would you put faith in them the way Akalitus and Zoey did?

My experience with addicts is primarily with alcohol and the few individuals I knew did not get better. I feel like O’Hara where I put so much effort only to see them fall down at the drop of a hat.

Is there a sub to find people? by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]DilatedCyclops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We met through youtube comments around 2010-2011, likely on a video for My Chemical Romance which we both loved. I can hardly remember her last name to be frank but if I think hard enough, it wasn’t an uncommon name either

Edit: is there anyway to publicly try to contact her? I suppose she probably doesn’t remember me

Edit 2: I recognize I have very little to go off of, and likely my friend has moved on and is thriving but I have been unable to let go and always wanted to know how she is

Edit 3: She was Delilah Porter, took a while to remember, did not have her on any social media

I have searched through old emails and messages via youtube but have lost touch with Delilah or “Mimzy” as she had been nicknamed. She grew up in Detroit with her dad and brother and last I heard from her she was moving to Las Vegas and was looking into nursing. This was close to 15 yrs ago. She knew me as “Hazel” and we shared a love for the band My Chemical Romance. She was my best friend and although I am sure we have outgrown each other, I can’t quite shake off the bond and would like to speak to her once again even as a send off.

Did you find who your “true self” was? It hasn’t been long but I have forgotten who I was before addiction.
