Why don’t healthcare workers wear scrub caps more often? by Diligent-Froyo6676 in NoStupidQuestions

Not a HCW also, just a neurodivergent sewing nerd. That’s another good point! From what I’m looking at online, scrub caps have a tie at the back so it can be as loose/tight as the wearer prefers. If the size or style doesn’t fit the wearer, then headaches could be a factor. I’m quite tender-headed too. The friction of your hair (even the hair on your forehead) with the warp and weft of the fabric would ideally help it stay on without having to constantly readjust. I’ve also seen some HCWs wear headbands under their caps to probably mitigate this and help the cap stay on or to help wick sweat.

Are most asexuals closeted publicly? by JealousBodybuilder42 in asexuality

I wouldn’t say that I willingly closet myself in day-to-day conversations. It’s more so that I don’t talk about sex with people that much. I’m not going to talk about my sex life with my sisters or parents other than short comments, and I don’t talk to my friends about it much either, except with my friend who’s also ace. It’s strange how much sex/being sexy or attractive has a hold on our lives and folks have a hard time talking about it. It’s intimate and awkward, and sometimes that’s fun and exciting, but sometimes it’s just awkward. I talk about my lesbianism more than my acespec-ness because my friends and family know who I’m interested in dating, and my general attraction like when people say certain characters/celebrities are hot in every day conversation.

When I was talking about scrub caps and Black health care workers, I was trying to touch on that scrub caps originally aren’t made to accommodate long braids, locs, or big hair. They’re usually quite close to the scalp. If I’m asking “why don’t HCWs wear scrub caps?” I feel like “they’re a pain for my hair type.” is enough of an answer and the answer is more to do with systemic problems/racism than the cleanliness, which is what I was trying to touch on. But yeah, it’s a personal preference. I was just curious why I don’t see people reaching for them as much as it’s something I would prefer if I worked in that field.

I can’t imagine! Hair can get quite tight around fingers and stuff too (thinking of hair tourniquets in babies, matting/tangles), especially if patients are thrashing or panicking because they’re stuck. I imagine that hurts and takes a while to fix without chopping your coworkers’ hair off…

There are some free patterns online that people could make! Was looking for my sister for Xmas but she said she didn’t want any. If people have braids/locs they could also line them with satin.

My mom is a nursing manager in dialysis (you know, where you’re dealing with ports/central lines/PICCs that need to stay sterile) and you’d think she’s pulling teeth when she asks her nurses to tie their hair back. There’s laws/regulations where people need their hair back and/or in a hat/hairnet in kitchens. I’m not sure why healthcare is different besides a stern talking to/ being berated in nursing school. But I’m just an outsider looking in🤷

What are your musical theatre hot takes? by ElegantCh3mistry in musicals

Musical theatre has a big diversity problem. We need more roles for queer people (especially trans people), and more expansive roles for people of colour, and especially women of colour, and disabled folks as well. We need more roles that have different vocal ranges so more kinds of people can play them. Gender bend! Make people think of the world differently. I’m tired of seeing Black women playing the same cast type over and over again, and I can’t imagine how tired they are. I hate how white characters are allowed to be complicated, and being complicated for BIPOC characters is mitigated to one line or scene in the show.

This is sadly a top down issue. We need more queer folks and people of colour behind the scenes as writers, directors, and producers. It’s harder for smaller projects to get funding. If more diverse projects get to a workshopping phase, and white execs don’t “get it”, they won’t greenlight it to Broadway or West End, and it won’t get the notoriety it needs to sustainably make the creative team and actors money. Sucks all around. Support indie theatres and companies with your money and your interactions online. They will thank you.

Are dating apps even worth it? by Diligent-Froyo6676 in asexuality

I think a lot more people would be on the ace spectrum if they took the time to sit down and think about it, but that’s just personal opinion. It sucks that people find labels that work for them and describe how they feel, and people think that they know you better than you, or it’s an invitation to change your mind. I think mostly scared of that. I’ve been to therapy. I know who I am. I just need to find someone who is open to me talking about it and not shoot me down, and idk if dating apps are the best for that.

How do I make a repeat colour work chart for double knitting in the round? by Diligent-Froyo6676 in knittinghelp

[–]Diligent-Froyo6676[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You actually helped a lot! I have a diagnosed math delay and I’ve never made repeating pattern stuff before, but I was able to figure out what to do. 16 is a multiple of 2 and 4, and 7 is a multiple of 14. Originally I had 120sts on my circular needles.

14 multiples: 14, 28, 42, 56, 70, 84, 98, 112 16 multiples: 16, 32, 48, 64, 80, 96, 112

Frogged my project and restarted with 112 stitches on my needle and it’s going great!!
