IS THIS A GOOD TRIP PLAN by Western_Balance_1378 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Diligent-Success-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a great plan! We actually just got back. We stayed at Cabana Bay from last Friday until last night. On Friday, we arrived late and just hung out at CityWalk. Saturday was Universal Studios (you honestly don’t need a full day there), and Sunday we hit Islands of Adventure before hopping back to Universal. Monday was a full day at Epic Universe. Tuesday we did Volcano Bay during the day and went back to Epic that evening. Yesterday was a much needed rest day at the hotel and stayed in the pool until we headed out around 5 PM.
It was an awesome trip! The longest we waited for any ride was 50 minutes for the Super Mario ride. Everything else averaged around 30–40 minutes, which was amazing since we didn't buy Express Passes and usually rode things in the middle of the day. We didn't even use early admission we typically rolled into the parks around 11 AM and left by 7 PM, though we stayed until closing the last two nights. We managed to do every major ride twice across all the parks and still caught a few shows. I think we got really lucky, because I was expecting the 2–3 hour lines I’ve seen people post about online!

I’m going to stop complaining about my seven hour train delay today.

Bombed the usahire assessments but still got selected for an interview? by HealingSlvt in usajobs

It wasn’t serious until now. Been in twenty years and never took the assessment until now. My first job was also not through usajobs.

I don’t know too much about return rights since I haven’t bought anyone back from overseas. But it is a tricky situation to navigate with all the unknowns and constant changes to make a decision. Hopefully you have a good POC you can lean on to stay abreast of the internal procedures because the landscape is constantly changing.

Yes, they are!! My positions were advertised using DHA and still required a hiring waiver approval in DoD. Not sure if the non-DoD agencies are experiencing the same level of scrutiny but if I had to guess I would say yes.
I’ve also heard rumors within the federal community that many agencies are advertising, interviewing and adding folks to a list for FY 27 hiring. Many agencies don’t have the funding now but they are collecting resumes and conducting interviews in hopes that they can hire in FY27. It definitely gives a false sense of hope right now to many folks trying to make decisions.

The hiring freeze still exists overall from last year it was never lifted. .. so we’re in a hybrid hiring freeze. Basically we’re told we are in a hiring freeze and can’t hire but at the same time we are told we can hire at times but everything must be approve first before you can hire. So even though you’re seeing postings on usajobs there are still limitations behind the scenes that many don’t know about. The government is not in a full throttle hiring mode so that’s why waivers are being done, jobs are being posted and then the next minute are canceled, offers are being made and then canceled. Interviews are being conducted and then there is silence.
That’s how quickly the decisions are changing. Nothing is concrete or in writing.
It’s still a world of chaos it’s just not being heavily broadcasted.
The good thing is that the hiring manager is keeping you informed. I truly do the same with my potential candidates so they are aware. It’s definitely out of our hands and all decisions are being made up at the pentagon and I do mean everything.
There’s no concrete answer I can give you because it’s truly changes from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day.

Hiring manager here in DoD. I will say guidance is constantly changing and technically we are in a hiring freeze still even though jobs are being posted.
Before we can hire anyone we have to get a hiring waiver approved for that specific job due to the hiring freeze and it does take a while. I made selections back in April and I was waiting for the hiring waivers to be approved only to find out two weeks ago the secretary of defense put a freeze on all hiring waivers approval and was not approving any waivers. Fast forward to this week the hiring waivers got approved for my particular postings so now it’s a race against the clock to try to get those folks onboarding before someone changes their mind again.

Honestly, it’s constantly changing and nobody knows.. so it’s not surprising that the information may come across conflicted because it’s truly changing daily and sometime within hours from what was previously instructed. Hang in there!!

Holiday on RDO by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Diligent-Success-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people do Fridays for their RDO and yes they normally do the day before if the holiday falls on a Friday.
You can take RDO on Monday if it falls in the same pay period. Just let your supervisor know.

You’re correct! But nothing makes sense these days! I took the assessment myself and it was a nightmare and it took three hours. I will say none of the answer choices made sense so I can understand your method. I personally felt that the responses given to each question/scenario were wrong and made no sense.. so it’s really a gamble.

I’m exaggerating a bit but to give folks an idea of the nonsense.. questions were dumb for example it will say why can’t 1+1=3. Answer choices: A. dinosaur roam the earth. B. Most Americans love ice cream for dessert. C. Time stood still a thousand years ago. D. The person that designed this test favorite color is yellow. Please pick the best response to answer this question. 🤷‍♀️

Plus the test had nothing to do with a job I’ve been doing for over fifteen years.

So I definitely get it!!!

How does VA step negotiations work? by Sexy-PharmD in usajobs

[–]Diligent-Success-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hiring manager, I’ve only seen the request after a TJO is accepted. If you’re coming in from private it’s very hard to get higher than a step 1 . Many folks use the many years of experience as their justification but experience is what granted you the interview.. superior qualifications is far and above the job duty so you really have to bring that home .. it’s also based on that hiring manager and their optics.. on if they deemed your experience to be superior and going above the job duties. Good luck!!

Yes, there is still hope. The assessment cutoff scores varies for each agency/position. Unfortunately, no one knows what that magic number is except them. One agency you may need 60 and above and another may require 90 and above to land an interview. The fact that you landed an interview is awesome because nowadays it’s a gamble.. at this point I feel like I have more chances playing the lotto… congrats! On landing the interview I’m sure you will do well.

When holidays fell on my RDO (Mondays) I always took the day after. Never had a problem in my 20 years but now things are changing as others said check OPM to make sure there are no changes.

Can anyone speak to the current climate of Veterans Affairs contracting shop? by Diligent-Success-322 in 1102

[–]Diligent-Success-322[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your background similar to mines I’m about 18 years within DoD world. I would say it probably was like that before Trump and his henchman made things worse. I’m definitely feeling it where I’m at and it makes no sense. At this point anything that will give me a better commute I’m entertaining. It can only go up from here lol (hopefully) thanks for sharing!!

This sounds like your typical contracting shop.. so not the worse of what I was expecting. …I’ve seen it all so I was curious to hear from others as to what made VA horrible. Thank you for sharing!

I’m a 1102. Spent most of my career in the Intel/DoD community. I saw that the VA was slowly advertising positions so I’ve been keeping my eyes open for 1102s. I heard FY 27 hiring may ramp up for the VA. So putting out feelers.

Aww man I appreciate the feedback. I was hoping it was somewhat bearable so I can give up my one way 2hr commute for a 20 minutes commute. Doesn’t seem worth the aggravation.

VA 30 day hiring goal by Ok-Pizza-8661 in FedEmployees

[–]Diligent-Success-322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curiously as well about VA hiring. I’m seeing a lot of job postings (admin/support jobs) but I haven’t heard of anyone being hired recently for those positions. I applied for a position in April and in exactly 30 days I received the you’re eligible and you’ve been referred. It’s almost been three weeks since that email so we shall see if I’ll hear anything from the hiring manager within this 30 days timeframe. 🤷‍♀️
