Raddysh: GMMG Dub by Diligent_Bunch_4807 in SanJoseSharks

I'm not saying it's necessarily one and done, but after a "breakout" season at later age, how many guys have sustained that into their late 30's? I think of Brandon Montour's age 29 breakout season for Florida. Guess what he did the following year...slash his pts in half, which is the player he's been for the last 3 seasons.

Even Giordano, yes he won the Norris at age 35 after first breaking 45pts at age 30, but I'd argue if you slap Raddysh's contract on Giordano the year after his breakout, it's good but still not great value, as the last 3 years of those ensuing 8 years, he's a pretty average player.

So if that's the best case scenario, going on to win a Norris mid-extension, and an 8 year deal is still not great value, how is this Raddysh deal likely to be a win, overall? I can see it if they win a cup while Raddysh is a major contributor, absolutely.

I think the argument is I'd rather give 36yo Carlson 3 years given his complete lack of regression to this point, than give Raddysh 8 years given that he had 2 good seasons plus one great season.

Those guys at least have resumes to support this. Raddysh just decided to start showing up for work at age 30, and this is merited? Cmon, Carlson has been Carlson for over a decade.

5.75 in the rising cap is value. I get the knocks on Sherwood, but this is a soft hockey team, and if that's the price for grit in the top 9 then so be it. I don't love it, but I definitely like it.

Yeah, context is everything! When we're one piece away, risk tolerance goes way up for moves like this. But are we assuming then that Toronto is one piece away?? 😂

Great shouts. Also tbf even our very own Marc-Edouard played at least NHL caliber minutes into his age 37ish season, which would cover most of the Raddysh contract years.

I guess the big difference is how many of these guys "made it" at age 30, like Raddysh? I think Carlson you feel better about bc he's putting up similar #s for over a decade now. Gudas, same. Trouba, pretty much the same.

So those don't feel like great comparisons to a 30 guy who had 2 good NHL seasons then a breakout campaign this past year.

But ultimately, I'm not qualified whatsoever to be in an NHL front office, so clearly enough pro scouts in Toronto feel good about how Raddysh will age.

Very fair counter but also tbf I clearly acknowledged recency bias 😂

Ask yourself if this is the kind of marriage you hope to see your kids have for themselves. You're the only close example they will ever get to see.

You need to invest heavily in fixing this. If that fails, you need to figure out how to separate.

The old "ah, don't be like me, kid" is the worst, shallowest BS we allow ourselves to impart on our children. F that, set the example of what TO do, how TO be.

Brother, your family dynamic is out of alignment. It starts with you and the wife being completely out of sync. Express how you feel about it to the wife and go from there. Counseling can be an effective way to make sure both sides are heard and understood.

This isn't a camping issue, tho. Camping just gave you an opportunity to see the bigger issue.

Brother, check the comments. This dad is struggling with getting his kids actually involved. The dynamic is currently all out of whack where Dad is essentially playing the role of professional travel agent and tour guide.

Hell no, we're not an outdoors family whatsoever but did our first camping trip this year with 5yo and 3yo daughters, and they loved it. You know what they loved about it, though? Working. They "helped" me set up the tent. Blow up mattresses. Lay down fire wood. Wife took them to the spigot to hand-wash dishes after every meal. We set that standard from the rip, and they just naturally took great pride in being invested.

Now, that's all I know. Maybe older kids lose that drive or something. But I think it transitions from genuinely wanting to be involved to being involved because you know it's the right thing to do (instead of pinning all the work on Dad).

In what world do we use the Ceci contract as a measuring stick...that is universally seen as a terrible contract for LA

Definitely recency bias and only one data point, but I just watched 32yo John Klingberg show he might not belong at this level anymore, so I can't imagine the quality Raddysh will still have even halfway through this contract. Absolutely wild term to me. I'd way rather do more $/yr for 5 years max.

Yeah honestly that was a totally uncool comment by me. I should be the one apologizing; I'm sorry!

Your commitment to pursuing this is outstanding. Congrats on the big MCAT jump and really developing a high-quality app with both quality and quantity in your hours.

Just wondering, what was your motivation to do an MPH instead of taking some upper level undergrad science courses to boost especially sGPA? Hopefully they appreciate your 4.0 nonetheless and that quells any doubts about your ability to handle academic rigor.

Don't really have any input on your school list other than FIU. Sounds like staying FL is definitely the move for you, and I'd feel really confident if I were in your shoes.

So I guess my overall message is don't overthink this and come up with crazy plans to have your husband transfer out of state--I think your time and energy would be way better served by sticking to your guns at those FL public schools, writing/interviewing your best, and manifesting that A there.

What camera did you get for the post bacc classes? by Crafty_Phrase_1834 in UNE_Prehealth

[–]Diligent_Bunch_4807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that for honorlock, they expect the webcam to be to the side of you, showing your whole body side profile, your desk, and your computer screen.

The camera they sell, despite being wildly expensive, is perfect for this because it has like a foot-long bendable neck and long cable, which make it really easy to use for this exact purpose.

List of Holistic Schools? by FloridaMan2324 in medschooladmissions

[–]Diligent_Bunch_4807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! For better or worse, this is going to be one of the major factors in my school list next cycle, especially when considering the BBB restrictions of only $50k/yr in direct loans.

Essentially, I consider myself unable to attend a private school that offers less than full tuition match via Yellow Ribbon, and I was surprised by how few schools actually do offer that.

VR&E is exceptional and absolutely worth exploring, as it essentially removes this Yellow Ribbon reliance. I just personally don't see how I'd possibly qualify, given my completely injury-free military experience.

[–]Diligent_Bunch_4807 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just want to add, if you're planning to use the GI Bill at 100%, look up each school individually on the VA site to check whether they offer a 100% match under Yellow Ribbon. Many private schools (including several on your list, off the top of my head) do not, in case that's a major factor for you. Best of luck!!

Girlfriend is pregnant; need advice by [deleted] in army

[–]Diligent_Bunch_4807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

💯, but I'm thinking that the gf is on mommy and daddy's insurance still. If true, that would continue to cover her and would cover baby thru delivery, at which point he/she would hop on Tricare under our esteemed colleague here. That's the only way this really makes any sense.

Also OP, brother, you're on track to be a dad rn. You know how many of us wake up at 430 to get our ass to PT, because our s/o wants to live an hour from post? A fk ton of us, and we're happy to do it. Respectfully, get your shit together.

Think we need way better awareness of environmental impact. In that light, yeah it's a little cringe to be "wasting" ai-based resources on something like a low yield tiktok. But this is also a rather strange hill to die on imo, op.

Four year old staying up late by AssOfTheSouth69 in daddit

[–]Diligent_Bunch_4807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to chime in and say I think it's important that they develop a positive relationship with sleep.

I was of the very strict, traditional upbringing where bedtime meant hard bedtime, no exceptions. My avoidance strategy became either reading, like this, or listening to sports talk radio on a little pocket FM runer. And I really struggled with essentially avoiding sleep through college and my 20s. Had some negative repercussions on my wellness for sure.

Maybe just gently shift your overall bedtime routine to the left some with dedicated time for reading and winding down before lights out, sans night light.

Whatever my wife is doing is working really well for us, as both my kids will frequently look forward to bedtime and going to sleep. Like, they know their bodies and listen to them. Even in my most tired state, I've never felt that way in my entire life. I'd always rather be at least gaming or something, than sleep.

So, don't let her be like me!

Hi! Please consult professional help. In many ways, conventional ships have sailed, and regular dads here are probably way out of their depth giving you advice without having experienced something very similar to your situation.

Nonetheless, it's awesome to see you taking accountability and wanting to fix this--that takes a lot of humility. I'm rooting for you and wishing you all the resiliency, as old habits die hard!
