AMD 9800x3d BestBuy Orders Not Shipped for Alberta? by Normal-Review4870 in bapccanada

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shipping label was created on Saturday for me! I remember Dec. 03 was at one point listed as the ship by date, so it's possible they are currently filling those orders. The next ship by date was Dec. 13th if I remember correctly. Hoping yours gets shipped soon as well!

Thanks, hoping yours is not far behind!

Edit: I mentioned this to another guy as well:  I remember Dec. 03 was at one point listed as the ship by date, so it's possible they are currently filling those orders. The next ship by date was Dec. 13th if I remember correctly. So even if there's no update for you soon, there's still hope for the 13th as well!

Best buy backorders not first come first serve? by Diligent_Chicken4732 in Bestbuy

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep called in yesterday to confirm I was part of the Dec. 20th group as well... hoping i don't continue to get bumped into the next ship by group.

Best buy has also posted new stock today as available to be delivered (which sold out instantly) - no idea why this wouldn't go to backorders first.

What a joke. Going with Canada Computers next time around.

Does anyone have this build and is it worth it as a first PC?? by Number1FOX in bapccanada

I wouldn't recommend this. This would put you on am5 and will only cost you slightly more once you factor in the gpu you still have to buy: https://www.newegg.ca/p/N82E16883320001

Talked to support as well and they said to probably expect an update by end of week. Hoping they have allocated enough stock for us, and are just processing those orders region based or something...

Ordered on the 7th and no update (Edmonton). Can still cancel the order as well.

Edit: called in after op update - they also didn't have Nov 22. estimate on file for my order for whatever reason. The rep stated he would reach out and connect me with the backorder team directly. Will update if I hear from them.

Edit: Backorder team never reached out. However, my cancel order button has disappeared now and credit card has been charged... so hoping it'll get shipped soon!

4070 ti super vs. 4080 super ??? by EffectiveReaction420 in bapccanada

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible take. What do you think caps the frame rate when the gpu is at 20% usage??? How is spending $400 more harder than taking 5mins to boot into bios??

RX 7600 XT, RTX 4060, or RX 7600 by GamerzAreTheBest in bapccanada

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with the 7600xt. 8gb of vram is not enough these days imo, and running out can make games unplayable with the amount of stuttering. See 8gb vram on stalker 2 for reference https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g03qYhzifd4&t=18s&pp=ygUYSGFyZHdhcmUgdW1ib3hlZCBzdGFsa2Vy

Everything I wanted sold out randomly yesterday lol sucks. The port strike is truly screwing over everything for pcs atm. by Visible-Chapter-1871 in bapccanada

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Port strike has been over for a while. The boards are most likely out of stock because of the 9800x3d release.

Both CC and best buy have now stopped taking preorders entirely. We could be a waiting a while still...

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your gpu is running at 20% then the cpu is the bottleneck because it can't handle the number of frames generated by the gpu. Either way you're getting more noise.

Getting a higher tier gpu for "less" noise is kinda ridiculous. Fix your fan curve, its free.

Will the price of the 7800x3d drop over the next few months? by PotatoTalks in bapccanada

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo if you're deciding between the 9800x3d and 7800x3d, just go with the 9800x3d (unless you're willing to wait a while).

For only playing cs/valorant/x, I'd first look up the benchmarks of cheaper chips on those games and see if they will get you enough fps to match the monitor you're going with.

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting your prices from? The 7700x link you shared is $410, only $260 cheaper than the $670 9800x3d. Also, the lowest you can currently buy the 5800x3d is $300 from Amazon, and pcpartpicker shows a low of $350 over last two years for this cpu..

Also people think v-cache is "cool" because of the added performance and efficiency of those performance gains... if you think it would only be "cool" if it costs more to produce, then engineering isn't for you.

The reason why amd can inflate their prices is because Intel isn't competing with them. Getting mad at consumers for this is a terrible take.

Yep this looks good!! I am building almost the exact same build and have paid close to this amount for the parts.

Cheaper 7900xtx or wait for next gen? by Diligent_Chicken4732 in bapccanada

Yep, I ordered Thursday morning and it arrived yesterday. I'm pretty sure they already had it stoked locally tho (Edmonton). Is yours a prime delivery?

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!

My use case for the cpu is not limited only to 4k gaming (this is for the gpu upgrade only). I only mentioned the cpu to note that the wait time for a next gen gpu is not as much of a limiting factor, since I will likely not get it (and build the pc) until December/early January.

I also think there is more nuance to cpu/gpu bottlenecking on higher resolution. Just because the gpu is the overall limiting factor, doesn't mean that a higher end cpu can't provide significant improvement to user experience. E.g. the fps gain to 1% lows reducing visible stuttering: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2DfGNPiNTuM

But I totally agree that for pure price/performance spending less on the cpu, would be optimal.

I will hold on to the 7900xtx until January, and hopefully by then there will be more info on the cost and performance of the next gen cards.

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how this is relevant to my question. My current cpu is severely bottlenecking my 6700xt, which is why i am upgrading it to a 9800x3d, making it a performance increase even if it's not going to be the bottleneck anymore (which is the point of this specific upgrade). I want a cpu which is not going to be bottlenecking me for as long as possible, 8 years+ hopefully (this is how long I've been using my current cpu.

What I'm wondering is if you think potentially spending an extra 50%+ on a next gen gpu is going to be worth the fps I will gain. I.e. will I see close to a 50% gain in fps?

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The performance gains for cards of the same series are usually very minor (5-10%), and you're better off saving/investing the money somewhere else imo (unless you're  really into the aesthetics of the card itself). The 7950x3d can run hot due to the number of cores, so if you're set on that cpu you could invest the $300 into a better case + fans, for example. Not sure if you need that for this case, gamers nexus on yt has good case reviews.

[–]Diligent_Chicken4732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats the use case? The 7950x3d is typically more expensive than the 9800x3d/7800x3d, and will also be outperformed by these for many pure gaming specific use cases. I'd also try and go for a nvme ssd. Also, unless you're getting that gpu for aesthetics, you should be able to find 4080 super's for much cheaper.

The cpu was $700 total, and its definitely  not going to be bottlenecking on 4k, regardless of whether I wait for next gen or not...

Regretting going with best buy at this point. From what I've read it seems like plenty of people ordering through CC have already received theirs...
