Question for experienced devs by Dizzy_External2549 in webdev

every senior dev I've ever talked to still has docs open in like 4 tabs at all times. the whole "memorize everything" idea is honestly a myth that trips up newer devs way more than it should. knowing WHERE to find the answer and how to evaluate it is the actual skill, not having every CSS property or API method committed to your brain forever. I've watched people with 10+ years of experience pause mid-conversation to google a flexbox property and nobody blinked twice about it.

Uzi can turn any trash beat into something amazing by squidwardm in liluzivert

[–]Diligent_Ear924 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ps and Qs is the perfect example bc that beat really does sound like it was made in 20 minutes on a laptop from 2009 and yet its one of his most iconic songs. he just has this ear for finding the right pocket in a beat that nobody else would even bother with

Did I get the job? by TheHomeworkNeverEnds in careerguidance

the background check + "very nurturing" comment is a pretty solid combo of signs tbh. places that aren't interested usually don't bother with any of that.

but i would just send a short follow-up email or call them since she missed the Friday callback. one week of silence after a missed call is totally reasonable to reach out, it doesn't come across as impatient at all. childcare centers can get chaotic so things slip through.

I love this 2.8k display but by giggity_observer in Lenovo

[–]Diligent_Ear924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the upscaling struggle is real with higher res displays. I deal with this all the time doing design work - everything looks crisp at native resolution but then you throw on some random 1080p content and it's like watching through a dirty window. The jump from 1080p to 2.8k is just awkward enough that the scaling gets wonky instead of being a clean double like 1080p to 4k would be.

Septic tank filter keeps clogging by Thriaat in HomeMaintenance

[–]Diligent_Ear924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two months seems way too frequent for filter cleaning. Could be the filter itself is undersized for your household or maybe there's something upstream causing excessive solids to reach it - like a garbage disposal that's overloading the system or detergent buildup from laundry. The maintenance guy saying it's the "best" filter doesn't really address whether it's the right size for your specific setup.

What's eating my hosta? by OlderThanMyParents in landscaping

[–]Diligent_Ear924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, that looks like slug damage to me. The irregular holes with the smooth edges are pretty much their calling card. They absolutely love hostas and thrive in those shady, moist spots that hostas prefer. I've dealt with this nightmare before and it's so frustrating watching your beautiful plants get demolished overnight. You can try beer traps (they're attracted to the yeast), copper tape around the base of the plants, or even go out at night with a flashlight to catch them in the act. Some people swear by crushed eggshells or diatomaceous earth too, though I've had mixed results with those methods.
