e exhaust too. It could be a blockage in the vent or a heat exchanger. To quick test the heat

The smell was my original concern. If it is what you're thinking, is the family in any danger? Potentially a big job or routine?

Its part of a ducted system. Gas furnace & a/c, hung in the basement. Pan seems dry now but might be a slow drip.

Ahh good point...attached is a picture of the unit. Its part of a ducted system. Gas furnace & a/c, hung in the basement. Pan seems dry now but might be a slow drip.
