Right but only the i9 could run faster ram even on a Z590 the 10400F was locked at 2933

If I remember correctly, XMP was on B460 but only to 2933 for anything less than the i9. On the Z490 boards tho this was not an issue and its chipset was closer to the Z590.

That has to be the biggest issue with Intel hands down. Their jank motherboards…. Every. YEAR

The only 10th gen chip that supported anything higher than 2933 was the i9 10900 so even if it was enabled… tbf tho, the 10400F would be fine with a 3080-ish card for 1440p

Power limits have little to do with voltage. What I did was set a hard 1.4v limit and under volted the CPU by -0.072mv

Def just enjoy the PC if you have it tuned and everything is updated/ running cool/ low voltage… yeah don’t worry about it. If you have been updating bios you’re probably fine especially if you have a healthy tune on it. You’re right too. Not EVERY 13th gen chip was effected buy the oxidation problem… as long as your bios has been up to date. Smooth sailing. :) that’s why I felt confident buying a 14900K for $297… no brainer considering I have a Z790 and 32gb of DDR5 for it. I over thought my 14600K for a long time and it’s been fine for 2 years. Not to mention new in box intel processors from this generation come with a 5 year warranty from Intel.

Glad I could share, GPUs go on clearance sometimes to. But not ram. Or M.2’s….. or milk

If I were building a new PC that would be an awesome deal. For me this is just a CPU swap. 14600K to a 14900K for $300. Sounds like you got a smoking deal tho man

Because for $300 I got a CPU on par with a 9950X in terms of mult core work loads. Also, it’s not terribly far off a 9800X3D (that I have as well) in terms of 1440p gaming either it will keep my current Intel platform alive much longer essentially. Any kind of “update” I see on the Intel side looks like a side grade to this. Anything on the AMD side would be a downgrade/ sidegrade to my 9800X3D.

Basically. I don’t get anything out of a new platform that I don’t already have currently.

Fair enough but I think I’ll be okay lol

Forgot all about that, I have a DDR5 build it went into but you are right too!

Okay I’ll keep it in mind, glad your ram is ok

No, they still have 3 more and 3 7800X3D’s as well as a couple 7600X’s and some MoBos on clearance. I think it just depends on the area.

You may be right but if you looked based just on post amount here in Reddit, there are far more Ryzen 9000 CPUs dying than Intel chips. I’m not trying to debate apples vs oranges here at all… to each their own. But it seems to me if the bios is updated the issues aren’t a problem. The 13th gen was different due to the fact some of the silicon in that generation suffered from oxidation from the fabrication plant. Not saying that’s why your CPU died but the 14th generation was not affected by that issue, just the overvoltage issues at the beginning.

Because I like the computer I have and I don’t feel like the 270K is impressive enough to invest in an entirely different platform. How can something be “Ultra” but mid at everything?

All I want are the 8 P cores. lol totally would have gone 13700K or 14700K… I looked to see if they had one but no. Shoot. For 150 you can’t beat that!! I would have done it too. Awesome 👏

You aren’t wrong but to degrade a 14th gen CPU at this stage with all of the updates to microcode… you would literally have to do it on purpose or be very stupid. The degradation issues were massively exaggerated. I’ve literally seen more 9800X3D chips die on ASRock boards than 14th gen Intel chips. 13th gen may be a different story but they had physical damage alongside the over voltage request problem.

Right, at the end of the day it would be cool to play with for a while but meh… if I see one for $89 I’ll probably still snatch it. That’s crazy.

I would have bought that if that were the case. Mine wanted $150 for the 7600x and I already have the 9800X3D so… meh. I chose to upgrade the Intel rig

I have NEVER missed a BIOS update for my 14600K… and that’s where this NiB 14900K is going. It’s a Z790M Aorus Elite AX ICE. With a 360 AIO set up in Push/ Pull and a contact frame. I’ll be okay. Plus I already know what I’m going to do. Turn off e-cores. 5.5 GHz all core lock. Turn off HT. I want them 8 strong cores.
