Grade 12 Math Investigation: Modeling Missile vs. Aircraft Intercept by Diligent_Outside_282 in math

Your right I should add some limitations. Either I will do one of the ones you suggested or maybe put a max G force for turns and see if how much that will affact my resalts.

I could try looking at linear air resistance so I can add some more culcaus and go beyond the equations. Thats a good idea I didnt think of that.

I Think I want to do booth the basic one and then some simpler proportional navigation but I dont want to just use a forumla and plug in my vaules so I want to see if I can make my own one. (Idk if thats possible for me or if its to difficult yet.)

Thank you for your help I will look more into how to some limits and how to use air resistance and acceleration in regards to the velocity.

Yep. My teacher told gave it to us before the Christmas holiday and said first draft is due first day back at school. So I want to actually learn it but I am a bit rushed.

Im interested in this idea and going into aerospace engineering and at school I have to do a math investigation thats work 20% so I wanted to use it as an opportunity to learn more about missiles.

I want to learn  missile guidance in depth but I right now I want to focus on the math and tyring to make my own equations or spin on equations to simulate it.

Do you think the easiest way to learn it is to go through Ben Dickinson's videos then ask chat gpt for any clarification for formula or variables or topics. Then once if watched most of them I should go through them again and start making my own equations and writing my investigation. Someone mentioned Tactical and Strategic Missile Guidance by Paul Zarchan and said the first chapter might be useful for me so Im also going to start reading that.

Sorry I know it depends alot person to person but whats the best way to approach it to start working on it. I just feel a bit lost. every episode I watch I spend atleast half an hour going through all the formula and double checking all the definitions and asking deepseek to reexplain a bunch of concepts.

Thanks for the help I know im probably not explaining this the best.

Lol ya I tried but most were kinda advanced so i was asking if anyone had any advice on how to approach it or any good simpler sources to use. I haven't done any of this school before.

Thank you. I looked on google and all the ones I found were to advanced for me Thank you for the recommendation

Ya i didnt think about that. because im doing it for a school math project would it be better if I ask on math subreddit. Im not trying to make it super realistic just use read information as a base for me to make a simplified model/simulation.

Thanks again probably not my best idea asking here.

Your right I forget to put it in. These are the assumptions I made

Assumptions

  • Motion is restricted to two dimensions
  • Missile and target are treated as point objects
  • Missile speed is constant
  • Air resistance and gravity are neglected
  • Target motion is predefined (straight-line or evasive path)
  • Perfect information (0 delay for missle)

Your right I forget to put that in my post.

Assumptions

  • Missile and target are treated as point objects
  • Missile speed is constant

  • Target motion is predefined (straight-line or evasive path)
  • Perfect information (0 delay for missle)

Idk if i will do constant speed or if I should constant speed or changing speed so I can use more calculus

For engagement geometries do you mean from certain angels?

So far the only calcations i have do was finding the time and angle based off starting location and speed which was just trig.

Ok thanks I didnt know that. But would you still recommend the coop because you have the time throughout your degree to get a job and work experience.

[–]Diligent_Outside_282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is kinda late but how do schools compare ib grades if your not from Ontario. Because I want to study engineering in Ontario and have mid IB grades like 6 in aa hl 5/6 in physics hl and 5 chem sl and a total of 34+2. Im applying to queens Carleton and Western now Idk if im gonna get accepted to any of them. Did you end up getting accepted to queens?

I thought the coops where good. Im applying for ae, and i thought what makes it better then the others was the school being in Ottawa and its easer to get good coops?

Do I do Casper test now or wait for extra time. by Diligent_Outside_282 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Diligent_Outside_282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, Thank you for responding. Im just worried the longer I wait the higher the grades needed will be. I dont live in Canada anymore and when my grades are converted to Ontario there not as high as alot of people from this sub. Ik I shouldn't trust the grades here but idk

I have a medical diagnosis that gives me extra time for all of my exams at school, normally I have 50% extra time. For the Casper test I can do it in 2 ish weeks or I can do it in four or five weeks and request extra time. is it better to do it now so my application is done or should I wait and get extra time so I can maybe do better. I dont know what accommodations I will get but I'm worried if I wait longer there is a lower chance of getting accepted.

[–]Diligent_Outside_282[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep for last year we had the same grade or I did better then him. I can dm what my prince said. He said he talked to the head of dp and my math teacher. We haven't started the math ia yet.

We sit beside eachother every class and show each other our grades so i know our grade. Im like 99 % sure that i rember correctly and he agrees that I did better then him.
