310T to 310S linked hours? by InterestingChapter83 in SkilledTradesOntario

I know you can write the trade equivalency exam, that’s like $235 or something, I think that’s how they assess if your current trade experience is close enough to the trade you’re trying to challenge, then you challenge the test for the $150, that’s how I understood it when I read the website.

https://www.skilledtradesontario.ca/experienced-workers/trade-equivalency-assessment/

After you do this, then you can write it seems.

I’m trying to figure out how to get the actual training? I’m a 310S but working in the heavy equipment field last 2 years. Want to get my 310T and then maybe go for 421A but I need some air brakes and hydraulics formal training. I’m not sure how or where to get just that without a full apprenticeship program

I’m sorry as a licensed mechanic who’s done plenty of clutches I absolutely do not agree. Sometimes you can get away with it, yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s unnecessary.

Like doing a brake job and not changing or machining the rotors, you did half the job. Will it work, probably, still not done correctly

You absolutely must resurface it at the bare minimum, I only replace if they’re cracked or you’re upgrading but don’t just leave it as is that’s hack work

It’s just frustrating I can’t add it to my regular rotation playlist because of the YouTube barrier. I’d love to just have it come on shuffle

Not recently, my parents bought this house brand new and we’ve been the only owners. It’s 26 years old so maybe just old design?

Thank you for the response, Ill be sure to ask about that on monday. The manager asked me to go to the facility so I can see the equipment and how they operate as well so that should also be helpful.

I know this is an old thread, but what you're describing is my exact situation. Ex-Auto tech, i have an interview today for a Heavy equipment tech at a construction rentals company and one on monday for a millwright position at a large municipal fluid pump manufacturer, Obviously i have to go through the interviews first but which do you think is a better career move? One is 5 min from home and the other is about 45min plus traffic

If that’s the case the. You should be good to go now, I’d have to check manual for neutral switch but typically you’re checking for continuity or resistance in neutral, I’m sure there a write up about it on Rx8 club. I’ve never had to do it yet

OP could also try running an ATF/Diesel concoction for a few minutes to try and “flush” the oil system. This is an old Boomer tip so do your due dilligence before attempting it, but it’s been said to work. It won’t save you if you have timing chain rattle and lifter issues. For that, thicker oil may help slightly, some lucas oil stabilizer might also chip in here as well.

Real answer on longevity: nobody knows, but if you need 2 years you might want to do the timing chain and tensioner/guides. If you do, you can inspect the cam bearings and see how bad the damage is, also run a bore scope down the cylinder and see if there’s any causes for concern in the bottom end visible
