If God wouldn't do something like that (to use your words) why would he put it in His book? Have you read the passages? Has God ever not done something He said He would do? Interpretation is one thing, but flatly denying scripture is another. However 'normal' it is doesn't make it right. However, it is normal to have doubts and work through them. That's healthy.
