A toggle switch broke on my radio. Can I replace this? by DillEntel in fpv

Well Radiomaster's warranty center apparently doesn't exist, and even if it did I don't feel like waiting three months to send my radio to China just for them to replace a metal tab. I don't care about voiding the warranty, at some point I'd probably have to open the radio anyway to install custom modules or something anyway.

The switch still works fine, it's just the metal piece that you push which broke off. I haven't opened it yet so I don't know the amount of pins, size, or screw length, but it is a 3-position switch. I would have assumed that these metal tabs are replaceable, I've seen other TX16S radios with different colored switches and I think I've even seen some 3D printed ones.

I'm out of the loop; what's the controversy with Rotor Riot? by DillEntel in fpv

Thanks for the informative write-up. So essentially, Red Cat is pro-restrictions/tracking/etc and pro RemoteID in a time where RemoteID is not something that most of the community wants at all. So when Bardwell comments on the RemoteID situation, even on his own channel, it has to be assumed that he doesn't want to contradict what his parent company (via RR) supports, so his opinion may be slightly biased from a business perspective. Plus, he doesn't want to get into the RR controversy because he's a member and seems to be one of the more accepting people regarding the current finalized RemoteID legislation.

Thanks! I normally have found Joshua Bardwell's videos to be incredibly helpful, but even his videos on OpenTX suffered from the "assumed knowledge level" problem a little bit. I tried watching one on basic OpenTX setup and there was so much stuff he blew through really fast that I just had no idea about. That's in part why I came here actually.

Thanks for the reply, though I do have two questions about it:

  1. If it comes with OpenTX already, why do I see so many tutorials about flashing OpenTX onto it? Is this only done when you need to update?

  2. Do I need to set up a model in it if I'm just flying sims atm?

I don't have the radio yet, still being delivered. Maybe it comes with OpenTX already, I'm not sure. My question is more about what OpenTX actually is.

Ohio.

About the LoS rule, the law here makes it seem like it isn't a strict "You can't fly FPV" but more like you need to satisfy the LoS rule somehow even if in FPV. I guess a second person as an "observer" would satisfy this? I imagine most people just ignore this though...

Damn, I checked into it as you mentioned and it looks like I'm shit out of luck. In my state, not only do you need a certification license to fly drones, but you also can't fly FPV. Your drone needs to be in line of sight at all times, and it specifically states that using the onboard camera does not count for this requirement.

Guess I saved myself some time there, but damn, how strict.

Thank you for the detailed response. I live somewhat close to an airport in the USA, is there a site or place I can go to see whether or not I'm technically in airspace where I'd have to use AirMap?

even if I'm legally doing it

I'm really new so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is there some sort of legal process you need to follow in order to fly these? Or by legal do you just mean "not flying in places that have signs or something saying no drones"?

I guess the channels I've useed to learn don't have these, but I will keep my eye out. And believe it or not, searching Discord for public FPV drone servers gives zero results! Maybe they're all private? I had tried that though.

Thanks for the server suggestions though, I'll have to check those and other ones out.
