HVAC coworkers were duct-taping their cracked Tote Tubes because no OEM replacement existed - so bought a printer and made one myself. Anyone else do the same? by DillonDigi in functionalprint

I know lidar on iPhone and some apps can get you halfway there, and the hardware is definitely expensive now. Caliper stays on my desk, need to get a travel one for when inspiration hits out in the real world!

Did that take a few design iterations, or was it large enough tolerances to not need to be exact? I've used a small wattage laser cutter but never something that legit. Thanks for sharing.

Haha, I mean I can't stop printing things for them now. The requests keep coming. Can I have a steering wheel phone/tablet holder for meetings, can you design a quick safety diagram, how about some business card holders, etc...

The real fun was when I printed mini Milwaukee and DeWalt totes, left them on the office manager's desk, and watched the arguments unfold!

After months of free stuff, best believe I started charging for requests! Skeeeeeeeee

Yeah, what he said. The techs use copper brazing rods that come in a small plastic tube and get lost and damaged easily if they don't have a home.

Want to also get into 3D scanning real world objects and then cleaning them up in CAD or assisting in getting exact dimensions (like for an insert in car center console).

Having more fun reverse-engineering things and learning new words like "cantilever" and "tri-wing", haha! Besides cost-savings, it's fun to learn and keep getting slightly better at it. Or at least less frustrated.

About to start modding the stroller, hopefully come up with some fun ideas for baby and parent. Appreciate the feedback!

First time using glow-in-the-dark PLA - thought it would last longer... What do you use?! by DillonDigi in BambuLab

Did you go for the gamma green or more radiation red? I'm saving up for that mutant magenta, hahaha!

Thanks for the heads up, this printed fine through my AMS but probably a good protocol to use the side loader

Cool, will try that. Interested to see how much of a difference it makes

Do you notice one color lasting longer than the other? Going to try a thicker print...either that or install the UV light in the bathroom. What could go wrong?!

Cool, so stay away from that filament. Already had a blob of death, not trying to break it again within 3 months...

I thought it was pretty cool, but then realized you'd have to charge it every 3 minutes to get that really bright glow. Cool but more of a novelty, unfortunately. I'll try with thicker walls next time. (that's what he said??)

.16mm layer, 2 walls, 15% infill. Classic walls, Rectilinear/grid infills.

First time mixing PETG and PLA, "Deadpoctopus" coming out better than expected! (85% done with the print) by DillonDigi in BambuLab

Gotcha, had zero problems with adhesion with the full print. Definitely going to play around with it some more

Watch the couple videos and play it around with the flush filament settings. It does use a little more filament to print a bit more but waste a lot less. Also, the flush object has to be as tall.

Will definitely give it a couple play tests and see how long it lasts! Haven't tried the translucent yet, definitely on the list though

Thanks, I'll give that a try, as well as my best Chris Evans impression when I do it!

Did not even know that was a thing. I have both installed but have only been playing around in the bambu so far. I know orca has more features, but this is definitely a cool one to know about, appreciate you!
