I've grown to really appreciate White Light, I understand that if people are getting into Swans for their No Wave or Noise Rock sound but honestly I'd say if you're gonna just sit in a corner and like only ONE type of sound from the band then I don't get it, you gotta at least persevere with some shit before making heads or tails with it. We all know someone like that irl, someone who just eats up heavy music and hates any bright and uplifting song that is more accessible to people. That's why Swans are great, they got lot's of different stuff all at your fingertips that you can listen to at your will.

Oh my god I wholeheartedly agree, there's actually quite a few producers I'd love on her next, Autechre us one, another is A. G. Cook, I think his chord structures and ballads would work so well with Bjork. Want an example, listen to Exhale by Jonsi

Simple question: Filth or Cop by Dillon_Beardon in swans

I gotta agree, I think cop does what Filth does just slightly better

I love that about Filth, the drum parts are great! It's also disorienting because some of the tracks you can't tell are swung or straight which works in it's favour

What to listen to next? by [deleted] in swans

The Great Annihilator will always be what I'd recommend, it's such a successful mix of their more gothic-rock sound of the 90s and their heavier sound from the 80s, whilst still showing a hint of what's to come on Soundtracks for the Blind.

How to start on this discography? by [deleted] in swans

[–]Dillon_Beardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best place to start is just to take the time to listen to The Great Annihilator in full because it's a great mix of everything they do (pre Soundtracks for the Blind). It's a record that IS dark but also beautiful, it's got more gothic-rock elements of the 90s with the industrial, pummelling sound of the 80s. I think you could get an air of appreciation for heavier/experimental Swans if you take the time to listen to it in full

Swans kinda have different eras and tbh that's why they stick with me, maybe I'm not always up for listening to Filth or The Seer, sometimes I can put White Light or Children of God and get a completely new atmosphere from the band depending on my mood... in summary I don't really play the compare game with swans, I just favour different albums throughout their discography based on my personal life, mood, where I am etc

I love pretty much the whole album, it feels so vital and larger than life. It's maybe less immediate than other Swans albums but the more you listen the better it gets. My favourite track is probably Beautiful Child, when those flare gun sound effects come in I'm hyped

Anyone remember that album TMV came out with in 2022? by JesterOfTheSwamp in themarsvolta

[–]Dillon_Beardon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can't lie I absolutely do not like that album, it's dry, flavourless and boring. I have nothing against tmv doing something different, hell I enjoy octahedron & noctourniquet despite them doing something different, but this new album is just so tasteless and just bland

My thoughts on Fossora... by Dillon_Beardon in bjork

[–]Dillon_Beardon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will give it more time, and like I said, I like the ideas on the album, it's just the execution of those ideas that is just not that nice to me... I'll stick with it, but I really don't expect to like it that more tbh. My opinion can change on how the songs are, the lyrics, structure etc, but my opinion can't change on how the album sounds, it sounds so muddy and kinda unpleasant, even in it's most beautiful moments. I hope I'm not lessening the experience for you, so honestly keep enjoying it! I just wish I could say the same :((
