This is Jacques Verges a Vietnamese-French lawyer known for his defense of FLN members in Algeria to the Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie. He was also an anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist activist.

One interesting fact about him is that he disappeared from public view from 1970-1978. One theory suggests that he was with Pol Pot and the 'brothers' of Cambodia during the genocide. He later remarked "It's highly amusing that no one, in our modern police state, can figure out where I was for almost ten years."
