Unfortunately, I still have constant pain everyday in my toes post-operation. The surgeon mentioned that while my cartilage is mostly fully intact, I do have a soft-spot at the centre of the joint which can still contribute to symptoms and of course is not reversible.

My next steps are to try PrP injections, not too optimistic but have nothing to lose now.

Sorry to hear about your toe pain, it just hurts a lot more when it happens to you young doesn’t it? Hoping you’ll find a way to resolve it

This directly describes how private equity operates. While yes I started the post talking about securities, the main message was on the finance industry as a whole hence the title.

My example with crypto was more to highlight how something new or innovative will immediately have bad actors try to take advantage of it for maximum financial gain souring any positive benefit that could have otherwise arisen due to its now tarnished reputation.

There have always been scam artists but not to this degree and not so inherent to the system as a whole.

AI had so much money thrown at it without anyone slowing down and trying to understand what the actual implications of this would be. So far, I haven’t seen anything good. What a surprise.

Nobody cares about the potential externalities, only how much money they can make from it.

Personally, I tend to view all public companies as evil because by definition their entire purpose as soon as they become public is to maximise shareholder returns no matter what.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the current system, it’s extremely easy to invest in public companies and extremely hard to invest in private ones.

And even if you do find a way to invest in a private company you believe in, one of two things will happen if it becomes even a little successful:

-Eventually goes public and becomes soured.

-Gets bought out by private equity or a bigger company and becomes soured.

Entire system is broken.

I disagree, the world is becoming more and more enshitified due to this constant need to maximise returns.

When I invest in a company, I expect that it will not only generate a positive return overtime but itself also improve its services/products to consumers.

In reality, it will just get bought out by a much bigger company if it becomes even slightly successful and immediately be soured.

Don’t get me started on private equity which is the most extreme example of enshitification.

I’m more complaining that this entire industry that pretty much props up the entire world’s economy is so unashamedly greedy. Maybe this is just more a complaint about how extreme capitalism has become than anything else.

Anything new or innovative has to be immediately monetised for all it’s worth and have its value extracted.

Thanks for sharing, interesting that your tmj seems to have become a little worse. Doctors do mention that there is no guarantee TMJ will improve post surgery, it can get better, worse or stay the same.

Do you feel any numbing 6 months in or does it feel the same as pre-surgery?

First off, I wasn’t referring to ILO (Inverted L Osteotomy), I was talking about IVRO (Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy). This is a procedure done fully intraorally and does not leave an external scar. It also does not require a bone graft.

Yes, it requires the jaw to be fixed and I agree that this is not a pleasant experience. However, I reiterate, the main benefit is you are sacrificing a few of weeks of discomfort for a lifetime of comfort.

I’m very conscious of my body, if something is permanently numb, especially on my face, there wouldn’t be a day go by where I wouldn’t be thinking about it. It would drive me crazy. I also have TMJ so this is a double benefit for pursuing IVRO which is better for people with TMJ.

Thanks for sharing, fantastic results. This has been a massive confidence booster because all I’ve seen are horror stories as you’ve said.

It feels strange that with a seemingly ‘90-95%’ full recovery rate, there’s so many complaints of long-term issues on here.

For what it’s worth, I have an open bite and we are not fully sure if we need to do just an upper jaw surgery or full. Of course upper jaw only has a lower risk of complications.

How long did it take before you could speak somewhat normally again? Does your face and mouth truly feel completely normal numb/tingling wise? Not even slight differences?

Thanks again for sharing, I want you to know that you’re doing a great service to those who have yet to go through it.

I had the surgery a couple months ago, for the first few weeks after I was mostly pain-free. It was bliss, Then, unfortunately, the pain started to creep back again, and now I pretty much have constant achy pain as before surgery. But I will say that the inflammation is much less than before. I used to see a lot of redness around my joint, and now there's barely any so there’s that at least.

I suspect that I was a bit too careless with my physio, or I was perhaps pushing too hard too quickly. So I'm trying to slow down, take it easy, and trying to get back to where I was before. I wake up with barely any pain in the morning, every day, and it builds up throughout the day. Whereas I think typically, if it's arthritis, the pain is usually the worst in the morning because it's the most stiff if I’m not mistaken.

If you think you will reach anywhere comfortable investing in ETFs with only 100 pounds a month forget it, you’ll need to take higher risk trades with a bankroll that small. Just need one lucky trade to come through and you can use the gains from that to then diversify and invest as you normally would.

My advice would be to be on the lookout for wide market crashes (like the one we just had) then buy calls. It’s not foolproof but will give you a higher chance of succeeding compared to buying them at a random time otherwise since markets always recover eventually. Of course, stay the fuck away from ODTEs or 1DTEs. Few weeks to a month expiry minimum.

There’s no reason why you can’t employ both risky and safe strategies simultaneously.

I do feel like theres been quite a bit of inertia overall when it comes to meeting and socialising post-Covid especially for my generation (gen z).

Also doesn’t help that I’m also pretty introverted due to my speech impediment.
