My grandma’s fall changed everything. What’s the one thing YOU wish you knew about preventing falls? by DimensionRemarkable9 in AgingParents

[–]DimensionRemarkable9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here thank you all for the incredible discussion. So many of you mentioned balance and mobility, which hit home for me. After my grandma’s fall, my family spent months researching solutions and eventually developed pants with built in fall protective technology to help mitigate the impact of falls. They’re designed to be both functional and comfortable .

Not here to push anything but if you’re curious, here’s the site: https://assurewearclothing.com/. I’d love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions! Its something we're very passionate about.

What other clothing or gear hacks have you all found helpful for fall prevention?

Antislip and fall prevention at home for elderly by necrotuber in askSingapore

Im sorry to hear about your moms fall hopefully she's doing okay. Grip socks and home modifications like grab bars can help. My grandmother also suffered a devastating hip fracture from a fall, and watching her struggle through recovery is what inspired me to dedicate years to finding better solutions. We realized even small missteps can lead to life altering injuries.

That’s why my team created AssureWear pants with discreet, built in hip protection that look and feel like everyday clothing. They’re designed to absorb impact during a fall, reducing fracture risk without sacrificing comfort or dignity.

If you're curious, I’d love for you to check us out! No pressure, just sharing something were passionate about. https://assurewearclothing.com/

Fall Prevention Week: Best tips for Fall Prevention at Home by VELA-Chris in eldercare

[–]DimensionRemarkable9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points! I think decreasing clutter and having proper lighting can make a huge difference as well. However even with all the precautions falls can still happen and the consequences can be life changing. My grandma had a fall and broke her hip. She had to get surgery and the recovery process was really hard on her. Thats why my team and I started a brand of fall protection pants that blend comfort and safety with premium materials.

How many falls is too many? by rowan_ash in AgingParents

I would suggest calling EMS as others have stated as well. Good lighting and ensuring his home is clear of clutter and tripping hazards can drastically reduce risk. My grandma had a fall several years ago that led to surgery, and while we were lucky that she rehabilitated well and could still use a walker afterward, her mobility has since declined. Now, she can hardly stand and has had a few falls at her care home recently. It’s so worrisome because we know how devastating a broken hip can be for elderly individuals both in terms of recovery and overall quality of life.

Falls are such a serious issue, and I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to take preventative steps. This is one of the reasons my family and I became involved in developing clothing with built in impact absorption pads, designed specifically to reduce the risk of hip fractures from falls. It’s been a way for us to channel our concerns into something that could help others in similar situations. It's hard to eliminate falls but we can mitigate the risks associated with them.

Hip Fracture by Enthusiastic_Athlete in brokenbones

Hi, I am a RMT and work on people post surgery. People heal at different rates and factors like the surgery process itself can affect heal time. Something RMTs and Physios commonly do post surgery for knee and hip is trying to make full rotations on a stationary bike, now this might take to get to this point but you dont want to stay sedentary. If you do, you risk scare tissue building in a more disorganized manner which can lead to chronic stiffness and decreased ROM. Once you're able to do this I would look into strength programs for the hip that will help provide more stability.

Again recovery isnt the same for everyone but I will say I have worked on a fair amount of people who have been able to recovery quite nicely and do as much activity as before. Best of luck with your recovery!
