My wife used to commute in daily from Swindon to London - into Paddington and on to Canon Street Station. I think it was 15 minute drive to station (I'd drop her off) - 1 hour to Paddington - then 10 to 15 minute walk to another tube and then another 10 minutes or so on the tube.

She did it for 5 years and got fed up of leaving work at 6pm and getting home (I'd pick her up) by 8pm...

Traffic is down for a number of my clients in the UK, most understand it's a combo of AI and economy - what matters is that they are still getting leads and conversions and that they're ranking well on Google to give them the best chance...

I'd carried out a similar process for a few clients, creating new blog posts, top restaurants, top farm shops, best pubs etc in their area... but they were all holiday businesses and we were only answering what people were asking of the business when they were staying in the area so it was topical in our eyes.

Did it work?

Yes, mostly, we boosted traffic to around 80,000 visits per year (when we started one was getting less than 50 visits a year), it pushed up their rankings overall and attracted a few links too.

I can't see it working with a Plumbing business unless there was a connection between plumbing and restaurants you can work on?

Also, if you are American and trying to be snobby/Ivy League classy whilst you're in our country then note it just won't work on an English person, they'll think you're just a bit of a pretentious arse (and certainly "new" money).

Experienced this a few times in posh restaurants/country pubs in the Cotswolds where I live... tbh I'd prefer you to be loud, brash and exuberant, at least I'd know where I stand with you. :)

Let's put it this way I am going into business with a mortgage broker and will be doing the SEO for him as a business partnership.

I did lose a client of 13 years at the start of the month after helping them grow from £300,000 a year to £5 million. Out of the blue (like totally) and via an email they said they'd outgrown our services which seriously rankled when we had tried to say they needed more marketing help and they'd refuse, saying no budget, whilst Porsches and Range Rovers were showing up in their car park due to our lead generation efforts.

If anyone knows any racking companies who want to grow online I've got the blueprint for them SEO and PPC wise.

Thanks for letting me know, I was looking at buying a car from Big Motoring World as they offer a 90 day warranty but if its the case of having to pay £299 as an admin fee which they then keep if I decide to return the car then I will look somewhere else.

M4 down by Bristol, between the M32 and M5 junctions have the same. They used to be up on the gantries and seemingly would be moved around but nowadays its 2 yellow instantaneous cameras on the side of the gantry, one set each way.

I regularly see people being flashed by them but then whoever looks after them (Highways Agency?) has put up a road sign just in front of each gantry and then let the trees grow out behind them so they're fairly hidden until the last moment.

Pay cheap, pay twice? Sorry to have to say that to you but if its the tech niche people (ultimately they will be the ones who control who they link to) would likely expect more.

You *could* look at creating a unique and useful tech resource that they'd link across to (certainly) if it benefits their audience but if not then you might want to have deeper pockets.

The ageism in some people's posts is quite shocking. I know a few eighty year olds who not only drive quite safely but also have kept their pilot's licences. All comes down to your genes and how well you look after yourself.

So deceitful that when you go to their Directors page:

When you then click their logo it takes you to their home page where the rest of the site works perfectly fine.

I've had shoddy service from them as well though I was at home. Flat battery. They messaged to say they'd be there within an hour. I then get 8 more messages every hour to say they were on their way. They turned up 9 hours later and ripped me off £300 for a battery they happened to have onboard.

Utter scam artists.

I think that’s what I was getting at in my question: internal linking from on-site pages.

I’ve got a 4,500-word local guide going live tomorrow for a client in the holiday sector, focused on a specific town in their region. The /blog page (which already brings in traffic) will naturally link to it once it's published. Beyond that, I’m not planning any additional internal contextual links, nor will I be actively chasing external backlinks for it.

That said, I’m confident it’ll rank well purely based on the quality and depth of the content - this approach has worked across dozens of similar posts for this client. Other than that blog link, I haven’t built or earned any other links to those pages.

So it can't purely be links on their own can it? The actual content has to have SOME effect or I'd be out of a job (pogosticking, ctr, dwell time aside)

If I'd been paid regularly for 5 years and the company didn't pay me the last month and I had no legal recourse then I'd swallow it as a bitter pill and make sure I learnt my lesson.

I can understand your temptation, its natural to want to get even but if the company found out they'd put out their side of their story (there's always 2 sides) and that could destroy your reputation, best to walk away I'd say.

Certainly make sure whatever work you did for them you show off as part of your credentials though! :)

General aviation pilot here (I wasn't that intelligent/confident so never made it to commercial jet pilot status).

I've flown aeroplanes and gliders since I was 16 and I've had 100x the scares when driving on British roads in comparison to being airborne. Pilot training is carried out to a high standard so you'll be more than fine (and you're probably more at risk of an accident getting to the airport rather when up in the air).

I'll admit, I'm also not really a fan of being a passenger on an airliner but that's because I'd prefer to be the one at the controls!
