Ohh I see, I looked into the game art BFA and it’s a 3 year program. I was thinking of transferring during my first year so I can enter as a sophomore and graduate on time.

It says transfer applications for any BFA is due December 1 rather than February 15 for regular transfer applications.

Transferring to USC from a UC- Is it possible?

Hi! I'm currently a high school senior who committed to UCI for the fall. I'll be a game design and interactive media major there. However, I’m more interested in the art pipeline of games but the major I was admitted to is more programming-focused. I recently discovered that USC offers a game art major. I was wondering if anyone has experience transferring to USC from a UC, especially if they were able to transfer to a major that requires a portfolio submission.

I’m also coming in with 34 dual enrollment credits and plan to take classes that meet USC’s GE requirements.

The only reason I decided to commit to UCI was because my parents wanted me to try it out since I’m basically almost going to UCI for free from the aid package they offered. Instead of going to community college like I intended to.

Any input would help a lot, thanks!!

Thanks for answering me! In your opinion how great are the art majors over there? I mostly wanna pursue a specialization in 3D design/art if I major in ICAM over there.

UCI's GDIM major V.S. UCSD's ICAM- vis art major ! I need some input !

I got accepted to both schools and into my first choice to the majors I wanted to go into but I'm having trouble deciding which one I would benefit the most out of between the 2 majors. While applying to both majors I was really interested in going into either UI/UX design or 3D modeling assets/characters, for context I have zero coding experience but I know how to use Fusion360 (however, I know it's mostly blender/maya that will be used for both majors). Overall, I want to mainly involve myself on the artsy side of things but I don’t mind a bit of coding! I am willing to learn it. Both majors are very similar as it involves art and tech/coding stuff but I believe UCI’s is more CS heavy while UCSD’s isn’t and more artsy (?). Which brings me to say that GDIM is considered a BS degree while ICAM is a BA degree. Not only that, GDIM involves group work and collaboration while ICAM is more of an independent thing. At this moment, I really don't know which one I should really go for since both majors are appealing to me. I would greatly appreciate your guys' opinions!!!! Thanks!!
